Brown Bears, Jr. Blues begin 2014 with wins
Kenai River Brown Bears 4 @ Minot Minotauros 3 – The Brown Bears erased a 3-1 deficit to score the final three goals of the game to edge the Minot Minotauors on New Year’s Day, 4-3. The Brown Bears opened an early 1-0 as with :11 seconds remaining in the 1st period, Albin Karlsson scored the game’s first goal. The Minotauros responded with three goals in six minutes in the 2nd period to take a 3-1 lead on goals from Jadin Martin, Max Pernhem and Jake McCann. However, the Brown Bears would strike back for two goals before the period was over from Conor Deal and Jacob Davidson to tie the game at 3-3. In the 3rd period, a power play goal from Alec Butcher would stand as the game-winner. Kris Oldham got the win in goal for Kenai River, making 25 saves. Merrick Madsen made 22 saves in the loss. Port Huron Fighting Falcons 1 @ Springfield Jr. Blues 2 – It took 2+ periods for either goalie and defense to crack, but when it did it was the Springfield Jr. Blues scoring the final two goals of the game to edge the Fighting Falcons, 2-1 on Wednesday. The win moved the Jr. Blues into the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division. Port Huron took their only lead of the game a little less than four minutes into the 3rd period as Taylor Fernandez scored. The Jr. Blues would answer back three minutes later on a goal from Jack Sloan. Two minutes after that Kevin Shand would scored the eventual game-winner. Stefanos Lekkas made 24 saves in the win, while Max Milosek took the loss, making 29 saves. Boxscore
