Eagles top Fighting Falcons on Sunday

Port Huron Fighting Falcons 2 @ Soo Eagles 5 – The Eagles salvaged a weekend home split with the Fighting Falcons thanks to a 5-2 win on Sunday afternoon. Sandis Zolmanis had another big game as he scored twice to help the Eagles creep to within one point of the 4th and final playoff spot in the North. Despite the loss, the Fighting Falcons lead in the division remains at seven points.

The Eagles scored the only goal of the 1st period as Zolmanis registered a power play goal. Scott Cuthrell picked up one of his three assists on the day on the goal.

Port Huron tied things up in the 2nd period as Logan Lambdin recorded his 14th goal of the season with an assist to Zach Badalamenti. However, the tide of the game turned late in the period as with just :11 seconds remaining Derek Lodermeier scored a power play goal to put the Eagles up 2-1. They would lead the remainder of the game.

In the 3rd period, AJ Jarosz and Zolmanis would score within three minutes of one another to make the score 4-1 midway through the final frame. Noah Batis added a late goal for the Fighting Falcons to cut the lead to 4-2, but an empty-net goal from Trevor Boyd made the final 5-2.

Port Huron outshot the Eagles 41-37, but Eagles goalie Nate Klebe made 39 saves to help the Eagles to the win. Max Milosek made 32 saves in the loss.
