Saturday Scores: Ice Dogs complete three-game sweep

Springfield 0 @ Michigan 1 –Despite 40 shots on goal, the Jr. Blues could not solve Michigan goalie Trevor Gorsuch, who stopped all the shots that came his way as the Warriors blanked Springfield, 1-0 to complete a weekend sweep. The only goal of the game came midway through the 1st period as Alex Berardinelli scored his second goal of the weekend with helpers from Cody Lichtenvoort and Zed Dietrich. Jr. Blues goalie Nico Dellamaggorie made 21 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Fairbanks 6 @ Coulee Region 4 – Four, 2nd period goals propelled the Ice Dogs to another win over the Chill, which completed a three game weekend road sweep of the Chill. Things were looking good for Coulee Region as they went up 3-0 to start the game on goals from Aussie Miller, Richard Zehnal and Sean Lang. Fairbanks responded with five straight goals, including four in the 2nd period from Todd Burgess, Lonnie Clary, John Teets and Yannick Vedel. Jacob Hetz scored in the 3rd period to make it 5-3. Eddie Matsushima scored for the Chill late to close the gap to 5-4, but another goal from Vedel made the final 6-4. Boxscore

Janesville 4 @ Soo 2 – Adam Winborg scored twice to lead the Janesville Jets to a 4-2 win on Saturday and a weekend road sweep of the Soo Eagles. After Winborg scored first, the Eagles scored twice on goals from John O’Conner and Matt Menta to lead 2-1. The Jets would respond with three straight goals as Alex Smith and Winborg scored power play goals late in the 2nd period and Zach Lavalle added a 3rd period goal. Matt Jurusik made 28 saves in the win. Boxscore

Bismarck 2 @ Aberdeen 1 – Alex Bitsakis made 27 saves as the Bobcats won both their games over the weekend thanks to a 2-1 win in Aberdeen on Saturday. After a scoreless 1st period, the Bobcats scored first on a goal from Cullen Willox. However, just :23 seconds later, the Wings would tie the game on a goal from Will Hammer. It didn’t take the Bobcats long to regain their one goal lead as :12 seconds into the 3rd period Oskars Batna scored the eventual game-winner. Chad Catt took the loss, making 23 saves. Boxscore

Austin 2 @ Minot 3 (SO) – Chase Springman scored the shootout winner as the Minotauros capped off a two-win weekend with a 3-2 shootout win over Austin in front of 1,300 fans in Minot. The Minotauros jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a 1st period goal from Jon Lizotte and a 2nd period tally from Jake Howie. Austin stormed back with two goals late in the 2nd period from Luke Forfar and Brady Jones. Atte Tolvanen made 22 save to pick up the win, while Jake Kielly took the loss, making 22 saves. Boxscore

Lone Star 7 @ Amarillo 2 – AJ Vanderbeck scored twice and Ludvig Larsson had four points as the Brahmas beat the Bulls 7-2 to earn a weekend road split in Amarillo. Things were tied at 2-2 midway through the game as Eric Carreras and Sebastian Vidmar scored for Lone Star and Cody Gylling and Elijah Barriga scored for the Bulls. The Brahmas went up 4-2 at the end of the 2nd period on goals from Vanderbeck and Oskar Andren. Vanderbeck added another goal in the 3rd period as did Andy Madej and Larsson. Boxscore

Topeka 5 @ Corpus Christi 2 – The RoadRunners poured 51 shots on goals to earn a 5-2 win and a weekend road split with the IceRays. The RoadRunners jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period on goals from Sam Rennaker and Daniel Rzavsky. Each team scored twice in the 2nd period with Logan Gestro and Jack Jenson lighting the lamp for the IceRays and Daniel Brickley and Sly Sutter scoring for Topeka. Luka Maver added a 3rd period goal for the RoadRunners to make the final 5-2. Drew Vogler made 28 saves in the win. Boxscore

Brookings 5 @ Minnesota Magicians 4 – A 3rd period goal from Beau Michaud was the difference in a back and forth game as the Blizzard picked up a 5-4 win in Richfield against the Magicians on Saturday.  The two clubs traded goals throughout the game with the Magicians answering each time the Blizzard scored. Brookings got two goals from Zach Glienke and others from Garrett Elmore, Pat Flynn and Michaud. Magicians goals came from Kelly O’Brien, Thomas Delaney, Tony Uglem and Marc Michaelis. Boxscore
