Minot, Odessa and Corpus Christi win on Thursday

Rio Grande Valley 5 @ Odessa 6 (SO) – Finally playing in their home opener, the Odessa Jackalopes saw three, two-goal leads disappear only to win in a shootout, 6-5 to snap a six-game losing skid. Odessa had leads of 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2 in the 1st period. Derek Brown scored twice and Christian and Kenny Hausinger added the other goals in the opening frame. Dallas Gerads and Stathis Soumelidis had the Killer Bees goals. Rio Grande would score two more times from Guy Roby and Dean Balsamo to tie the game at 4-4 early in the 3rd period. Odessa regained the lead at 6-5 on Kenny Hausinger’s second goal of the night only to see Soumelidis score his second of the night to tie the game at 5-5. The first three Odessa shooters scored in the shootout to secure the win as Brown ended up with the shootout winner. Boxscore
 
Wichita Falls 4 @ Corpus Christi 7 – Five straight goals late in the 1st period and in the 2nd period was the difference as the IceRays beat the Wildcats, 7-4 on Thursday. Nic Laburn scored twice and Wes Michaud had four assists for the IceRays. Kevin Charyszyn scored the opening goal by the ‘Cats, which was answered by five straight IceRays goals including one from Laburn and others from Nathan Bryer, Mason Kreuger, Ryan Cusin and Anthony Cortese. Wildcat goals from Charyszyn and Evan Okeley late in the 2nd period cut the lead to 5-3. Laburn added his second goal of the game late in the 3rd period as did Connor Bucsis to secure the win for Corpus Christi. Austin Albrecht had the other tally for Wichita Falls. Boxscore
 
Minot 6 @ Bismarck 4 – Six different players scored for Minot and Atte Tolvanen made 33 saves as the Minotauros picked up a big 6-4 road win in Bismarck on Thursday. The win moved the 2nd place Minotauros to within a point of 1st place Austin. Three goals in the 1st period fueled Minot who got goals from Blake Lizotte, Jake Howie and Colton Kramer. Jared Spooner had the lone Bobcats goal in the 1st period. The Bobcats made a game of it with two goals in the 2nd period to tie the game at 3-3 on another goal from Spooner and one from Evan Giesler. However, the back breaker came just :21 seconds later as the Minotaurs scored twice within less than a minute to take a 5-3 lead to the lockerroom on goals from Jon Lizotte and Max Mattler. John Snodgrass added a 3rd period goal for Minot and JM Piotrowski scored for Bismarck to complete the scoring. Boxscore
