Saturday Scores: RoadRunners, Jets complete weekend sweeps

Johnstown 3 @ Janesville 6 – The Jets erased Johnstown leads of 2-0 and 3-1, scoring all six goals in the 3rd period as they doubled up the Tomahawks 6-3, completing a weekend sweep of the Tomahawks. Tanner Barnes scored twice to give Johnstown a 2-0 lead after two periods. Drew Callin scored early in the 3rd period to draw the Jets to within 2-1, but a goal from Steven Quagliata a minute later made it 3-1 for the Tomahawks. The Jets five-goal flurry started with just seven minutes to go as two goals from Evan Feno and others from Ian Janco, Dan Kucerovy and Roberts Smits gave the Jets five goals in less that seven minutes for the win. Rio Grande Valley 2 @ Topeka 3 (SO) – Matej Tomek made 32 saves through regulation and overtime and then stopped all five shooters in the shootout as the RoadRunners completed a weekend home sweep of the Killer Bees with a 3-2 shootout win. The teams traded goals in the 1st and the 3rd periods with Daneil Nilsson and Anthony Croston scoring for Rio Grande Valley and Sam Rennaker and Jasen Fernsler scoring for Topeka. In the shootout, a goal from Fernsler is all the RoadRunners would need to secure the win. Nick Schmit made 22 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Brookings 2 @ Bismarck 3 (OT) – The Bismarck Bobcats survived a comeback attempt from the Blizzard and got an overtime goal from JM Piotrowski as they edged the Blizzard on Saturday, 3-2 in overtime. Things looked good for the home side as 1st period goals from Evan Giesler and Matt Perry put the Bobcats ahead 2-0. The Blizzard would respond in the 2nd period with two goals of their own from Oscar Odd and Joe Anderson to tie the game at 2-2. Piotrowski’s overtime-winner came off a deflection of a Blizzard defenseman. Hunter Shepard made 14 saves in the win, while Ryan Kubic took the loss, making 29 saves. Boxscore

MN Magicians 4 @ Minot 2 – Vaughan Ahrens made 42 saves to help the Minnesota Magicians snap their losing skid with a 4-2 win in Minot, which salvaged a weekend split of the series. It was the Magicians who seized the early momentum as goals from Connor Bucsis and Sam Becker put the Magicians ahead 2-0 after one period. An goal from Lukas Laub early in the 2nd period pushed the lead to 3-0. Minot responded with goals from Casey Johnson and Jacob Howie to cut the lead to 3-2, but a goal from Kane Durment midway through the 3rd period secured the win for Minnesota. Boxscore

Wenatchee 3 @ Fairbanks 2 – Two, 3rd period goals were the difference as the Wild salvaged a weekend split with the Ice Dogs thanks to a 3-2 win on Saturday. Wenatchee got the scoring started in the 1st period with a goal from August Von Ungern-Sternberg. Fairbanks answered back in the 2nd period with a goal from Jesper Ohrvall and Ohrvall would then put the Ice Dogs ahead early in the 3rd period with his second goal of the game. The Wild would answer back :41 seconds later on a goal from Kyle Stephan, which tied the game at 2-2. Mike Coyne would score the game-winner with about four minutes to go. Michael Bullion picked up the win in goal, making 22 saves, while Kevin Aldridge took the loss making 30 saves. Boxscore

Aberdeen 1 @ MN Wilderness 5 – The Wilderness scored five unanswered goals as they salvaged a weekend split with the visiting Wings with a 5-1 win on Saturday. Colin Raver got the Wings off on the right foot with a goal less than three minutes into the game. Brett Heikkila tied the game at 1-1 late in the 1st period. A goal from Billy Exell put the Wilderness ahead for good in the 2nd period and two goals from Darian Romanko and another from Janis Jaks in the 3rd period put the game away. Ryan Anderson had to make just 11 saves in the win, while Andrew Shortridge made 37 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Coulee Region 1 @ Kenai River 0 – Adam Carlson stopped all 39 shots that came his way for his 5th shutout of the season as the Chill blanked the Brown Bears in their second game of a weekend series with a 1-0 win on Saturday. The lone goal of the game came early in the 2nd period as Blake Kelley scored with assists from Dominik Florian and Garrett Riebling. Brown Bears goalie Evan Hauser played well in the loss, making 32 saves. Boxscore

Springfield 4 @ Keystone 3 (SO) – Joey Lupo scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Jr. Blues salvaged a weekend split with the Ice Miners thanks to a 4-3 shootout win. The Jr. Blues jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period with goals from Anthony Scarsella and Brady Tomlak. Keystone would respond in the 2nd period with three goals in eight minutes to take a 3-2 lead as Austin Romzek, Cameron Smith and Noah Batis would all score. Before the period was over, Kyle Meeh would tie things up for the Jr. Blues. After a scoreless 3rd period and overtime, Lupo would score the lone goal in the shootout. Niko Dellamaggorie made 26 saves in the win, while Alex Blankenburg took the loss, making 34 saves. Boxscore

Amarillo 4 @ Odessa 2 – Three, 2nd period goals helped the Amarillo Bulls salvage a weekend split with the Jackalopes thanks to a 4-2 win on Saturday night. The Bulls got things started in the 1st period with a goal from Elijah Barriga. Odessa answered in the 2nd period with a goal from Kenny Hausinger. Amarillo then broke the game open in the 2nd period with three goals in 10 minutes from Riley Christensen, Will Harrison and Ben Jensch. Christian Hausinger added a 3rd period power play goal, but it would not be enough for the Jacks. Jacob Weatherly picked up the win, making 19 saves. Boxscore
