Saturday Scores: Jr. Blues, Bruins and Tomahawks sweep

Austin goalie Kris Carlson and Johnstown goalie Nick DeSimone backstopped their teams to weekend sweeps.

Janesville 1 @ Springfield 2 (SO) – The Jr. Blues would pick up a weekend sweep of the Jets thanks to a 2-1 shootout win on Saturday night. After a scoreless 1st period, the Jr. Blues scored first in the 2nd period thanks to a tally from Arseni Vashchuk. The Jets ended up tying the game early in the 3rd period on a goal from John Peterson. In the shootout, Joey Lupo scored the only goal, while Jr. Blues goalie Niko Della Maggorie stopped all three Jets shooters to secure the win. Della Maggorie ended up making 26 saves in the win. Jets goalie Jack LaFontaine made 21 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Johnstown 4 @ Kenai River 1 – Nick DeSimone was again solid in goal, stopped 35 shots and helping the Tomahawks to a 4-1 win and weekend sweep in Kenai River against the Brown Bears. After a scoreless 1st period the two teams traded goals in the 2nd period to make it 1-1 as Andrew Romano scored for the Tomahawks and Evan Butcher scored for the Brown Bears. The Tomahawks opened up the game in the 3rd period with three goals from Kelly O’Brien, Casey Linkenheld and Luke Lynch. Brown Bears goalie Nick Nast made 34 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Austin 6 @ Aberdeen 2 – Thanks to 33 saves from Kris Carlson and goals from six different players, the Austin Bruins posted a weekend road sweep in Aberdeen against the Wings with a 6-2 win on Saturday. The game got off to a fast start with five 1st period goals. Austin scored three from Luke Forfar, Travis Kothenbeutel and Jade Miller. The Wings goals came from Kevin Fitzgerald and Tucker DeYoung. In Bruins scored twice more in the 2nd period on tallies from Justin Misiak and Dawson DiPietro and Griffin Slightham added a 3rd period goal. Peter Thome made 27 saves in the Wings loss.  Boxscore

New Jersey 4 @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 0 – Jack Berry stopped all 41 shots that came his way as the Titans salvaged a weekend split with the Knights thanks to a 4-0 road win. New Jersey started the scoring early with an unassisted goal from Joseph Schuler, which would stand as the game-winner. Keegan Miller added a power play goal towards the end of the period to make it 2-0. New Jersey tacked on two more goals in the 3rd period from Brad Becker and Garrett Hallford to put the game away. Knights goalie Andrey Svistunov took the loss with 10 saves. Grant Valentine made 25 saves in a relief appearance. Boxscore

Topeka 2 @ Corpus Christi 1 (OT) – The RoadRunners earned a weekend split thanks to 26 saves from Vladimir Cibulka and scored late in overtime to win 2-1 in Corpus Christi. The RoadRunners got on the board first late in the 1st period with a goal from Carlos Fornaris. The IceRays tied the game late in the 3rd period with an extra attacker on the power play as with just over a minute remaining Mason Krueger scored. In the overtime, Marcus Russell would net the game-winner with :32 seconds remaining. Graham Hunt would play well in the loss making 32 saves. Boxscore

Amarillo 3 @ Odessa 2 (SO) – The Bulls salvaged one win in the three-game series with Odessa thanks to a come-from-behind 3-2 win in a shootout. After a scoreless 1st period, it was the Jacks who took a 2-0 lead with 2nd period goals from Eric Carreras and Oliver Celec. The Bulls stormed back in the late stages of the 3rd period with goals from Charlie Singerhouse and Joey Molinaro to tie the game. In the shootout, Molinaro and Brady Crabtree scored to give the Bulls the extra point. Anton Martinsson picked up the win in goal for the Bulls, making 25 saves, while Dean Shatzer played well in the loss, making 38 saves. Boxscore

MN Magicians 0 @ Bismarck 3 – Hunter Shepard stopped all 24 shots that came his way for his second shutout of the season as the Bobcats salvaged a weekend split with the Magicians thanks to a 3-0 win. The Bobcats got off to a fast start with two goals in the 1st period from Harrison Aide and Aaron Herdt, with Aide’s standing as the game-winner. Herdt would tack on his second goal of the game late in the 3rd period on a shorthanded tally. Magicians goalie Drew Hotte made 33 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Wichita Falls 1 @ Lone Star 2 (OT) – In a reversal of Friday night, it was the Brahmas who tied the game in the 3rd period and then went onto win in overtime as each team came away with three points on the weekend. The Wildcats struck first as Friday’s hero Rourke Russell scored what would be the only Wildcats goal in the 1st period.  Early in the 3rd period, a shorthanded goal from Alex Berardinelli tied the game at 1-1. The just 1:19 into overtime, Berardinelli would score the game-winner. Corbin Kaczperski made 26 saves in the win, while Justin Kapelmaster took the loss making 15 saves. Boxscore

Minot 2 @ MN Wilderness 4 – The Wilderness jumped out to an early lead and got 34 saves from Chase Munroe as they salvaged a weekend home split against the Minotauros with a 4-2 win on Saturday. Minnesota jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three, 1st period goals including power play goals from Brett Heikkila and Alex Toscano and an even strength goal from Malo Ville. Minot surged back in the 2nd period with back-to-back goals from Austin Martinsen. Late in the period, Tyler Cline added an insurance goal, which would be enough for the Wilderness win and complete the scoring. Lucas Murray made 28 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Aston 2 @ Fairbanks 1 – Aston goalie Darion Hanson was the star of the night as the former NAPHL goalie made 41 save to help the Rebels to a 2-1 win in Fairbanks and salvage a weekend split with the Ice Dogs. After a scoreless 1st period, all the scoring came in the 2nd period with the Rebels getting goals from Michael Merulla and Dean Balsamo. The lone Ice Dogs goal came from Clay Cross. Gavin Nieto made 27 saves in the Ice Dogs loss. Boxscore
