Brookings forward Hakkarainen makes NCAA DI commitment

November 9, 2015
The Brookings Blizzard, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Mikael Hakkarainen has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at Providence College in the Hockey East Conference.

Hakkarainen's commitment is for the 2017-18 season.

The 17-year-old native of Espoo, Finland, is in his first NAHL season. He is currently 2nd on the team in scoring with 12 points (3 goals, 9 assists) in 15 games played.

The commitment continues the exciting year for Hakkarainen (6’1/175) who was also recognized earlier in the year as one of 11 NAHL players on the National Hockey League’s (NHL) ‘Prospects to Watch’ list for 2016 draft-eligible players with the release of NHL Central Scouting's preliminary list of players to watch in North America and Europe.

“We are very excited for Mikael and this opportunity. He is a very hard working player on and off the ice and this is a great opportunity for him and a great commitment for our league,” said Brookings head coach Dan Daikawa.

Previously, Hakkarainen had played in Finland, spending last season with the Espoo Blues 18U team.
