Graalum's OT-winner sends Wings past Blizzard
December 9, 2015
Brookings 3 @ Aberdeen 4 (OT) – The Aberdeen Wings started their week with a big 4-3 overtime win on Wednesday night at the Odde Ice Center in Aberdeen.
It was a back and forth game with a lot of offense as each team registered 39 shots in the game. The 1st period was an active one with the Wings taking a 2-1 lead. Tucker DeYoung opened the scoring less than four minutes into the game. That was answered by a power play goal from Brookings forward Nick Ford. However, less than three minutes later, the Wings answered back on the power play as Will Hammer scored to make it 2-1.
In the 2nd period, Brookings evened the score as Mikael Hakkarainen scored his 7th goal of the season to make it 2-2 after two periods.
In the 3rd period, the Wings regained the lead yet again as Andrew Noel scored on the power play with less than five minutes remaining to make it 3-2. Brookings would have an answer yet again as Griff Jeszka scored on the power with just over two minutes remaining to tie the game at 3-3 and send the contest to a 3-on-3 overtime.
Just over two minutes into the overtime, Carter Roo skated into the Brookings zone on a 2-on-2 and sent a pass over to Jackson Graalum, who got around the outside and wired a low shot past Brookings goalie Josh Kuehmichel for the game-winner.
Kuehmichel made 35 saves in the loss, while Aberdeen goalie Peter Thome picked up the win, making 36 saves.
