Saturday Scores: Minotauros back on track with sweep

Odessa 4 @ Amarillo 3 (SO) – The Jackalopes withstood a furious comeback by the Bulls to ultimately triumph in a shootout, 4-3 and sweep the weekend road series in Amarillo. Odessa led 1-0 after the 1st period thanks to a goal from Daniel Kiraly. The lead swelled to 3-0 for the Jacks with two more goals in the 2nd period from Eric Carreras and Brennen Miller. The Bulls did their best to comeback in the 3rd period, courtesy of Tyler Gernhofer, who scored a natural hat-trick within a 10-minute span to knot the game at 3-3.  After a scoreless overtime, Kiraly was the only one of the six combined shooters to net a goal in the shootout. Dean Shatzer made 30 saves in the win, while Anton Martinsson made 39 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Lone Star 3 @ Wichita Falls 4 (SO) – It took an epic 36-man combined shootout, but the Wichita Falls Wildcats finally were able to beat the Brahmas, 4-3 to take home a weekend series sweep. The Wildcats jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the 1st period with goals from Michael Rounds, Nick Rosa and Ryan Burnett. Dalton Skelly had the lone Brahmas goal.  The Brahmas stormed back in the 2nd period with a pair of goals from Johan Lundgren and Tyler Drevitch to tie the game at 3-3.  After a scoreless 3rd period and overtime, both teams amazingly went through an entire bench of shooters before having to start over again, ultimately with Wildcats forward Adam Goodsir netting the shootout winner on his second attempt. Justin Kapelmaster made 22 saves in the win, while Conor O’Brien made 23 saves in a relief appearance in the loss. Boxscore

Janesville 2 @ Coulee Region 3 – The Chill picked up their second win of the weekend as the jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 3-2 win in Janesville. The Chill led 1-0 after the 1st period thanks to a goal from Caleb Schroer. The Chill lead increased to 2-0 with a 2nd period tally from Isaac Theisen. An early goal in the 3rd period from the Jets’ Adam Winborg made the score 2-1, but a late goal from Alex Falconer secured the win for the Chill. Alex Smith had a late extra-attacker goal for the Jets. Hunter Vorva made 32 saves to pick up the win, while Blake Weyrick made 34 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Minot 6 @ MN Magicians 3 – Thanks to a four-goal 3rd period, the Minot Minotauros completed a weekend road sweep of the Magicians with a 6-3 win. Things were tied up after two periods, thanks to Minot goals from Max Reisinger and Austin Martinsen and Magicians goals from Travis Brown and John Peterson. The Minotauros exploded for four goals in the 3rd period in an eight-minute span, with goals coming from Troy Degler, Zack Bross and two from Johnny Walker. Jack Christensen had the other goal for the Magicians. Lucas Murray made 15 saves in the win, while Will Ulrich made 25 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Aberdeen 2 @ Bismarck 3 (OT) – Oskars Batna scored 2:11 into overtime to lift Bismarck to a 3-2 win over the visiting Wings on Saturday. Bismarck jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st period with a power play goal from Aaron Herdt. Austin Heakins tied the game in the 2nd period, but Bismarck regained the lead thanks to a goal from Harrison Aide. The Wings were able to tie the game midway through the 3rd period with a power play goal from Kevin Fitzgerald. Hunter Shepard made 24 saves in the win, while Peter Thome made 39 saves in the loss. Austin 1 @ Brookings 6 – Josh Kuehmichel made 40 saves to lead the Blizzard to a 6-1 home win over the Bruins. It was all Blizzard in the 1st period as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Parker Revering and Griff Jeszka. Brookings scored two more goals in the 2nd period with tallies from Justin Brandt and Zach Mitchell.  In the 3rd period, Mitchell scored again and Martan Yelle also added a goal. The lone Bruins goal came from Gilbert Gabor. Robbie Goor took the loss in goal for the Bruins, making 18 saves. Boxscore

MN Wilderness 5 @ Fairbanks 3 – Jack Forbort scored twice to lead the Wilderness to a 5-3 win on Saturday over the Ice Dogs to earn a weekend split. After a scoreless 1st period, the Wilderness got three goals in the 2nd period from Aaron Miller, Casey Gilling and Forbort. Koby Bender and Forbort scored in the 3rd period to secure the 5-3 win. Fairbanks got goals from Reggie Lutz, Ryner Gorowsky and Tyler Tomberlin. Luke Kania made 25 saves in the win, while CJ Boothe made 18 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Springfield 3 @ Kenai River 2 – Niko Della Maggorie made 25 saves to lead the Jr. Blues to a 3-2 road win in Kenai River to earn a weekend split of the series. Brennan Blaszczak, who had a goal and an assist, got the scoring going for Springfield in the 1st period. The lead increased to 3-0 in the 2nd period with goals from Josh Bell and Matt Long. The Brown Bears made a valiant comeback in the 3rd period with a pair of goals from Austin Junger, but it would not be enough. Nick Nast, who came in relief of Magnus Lindhe, made 16 saves in the loss. Boxscore
