Friday Finals: Tomhawks win tightens East leaders

Johnstown 6 @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 2 – The Tomhawks scored four, 3rd period goals, three of which were on the power play, as they broke a 2-2 deadlock and topped the Knights, 6-2. Johnstown led 2-0 early in the 2nd period thanks to goals from Niko Coffman and Anthony Parrucci. The Knights would respond with goals later in the period from Jimmy Elser and Paul Maust. In the 3rd period, Casey Linkenheld scored back-to-back power play goals to pu the Tomhawks ahead for good and Brendan Jaquay and Alex Alger also scored. Jaquay ended up with three points on the night and Ryan Glander made 35 saves in the win. Boxscore

MN Wilderness 1 @ Coulee Region 6 – Mattis Kivlenieks made 37 saves and Kevin Dineen had a four-point night as the Chill beat the Wilderness, 6-1. The Wilderness got on the board first with a goal in the 1st period from Koby Bender. However, it was all Chill after that as they jumped ahead 2-1 with two 2nd period goals from Larry Jungwirth and Dineen. The Chill would add four more goals in the 3rd period, which included two goals from Justin Kendall and others from Alex Falconer and Phil Erickson. Boxscore

Corpus Christi 4 @ Amarillo 2 – Dryden McKay made 38 saves to lead the IceRays to an important 4-2 road win in Amarillo on Friday. The IceRays jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two 1st period goals from Colton Meekhof and Regen Cavanagh and a 2nd period goal from Mason Krueger. Amarillo mounted a comeback with goals from Michael Forman in the 2nd period and George Mika early in the 3rd period, but another goal from Cavanagh late secured the win. Drake Lindsay had three assists on the night for the IceRays. Bulls goalie Brian Baker made 28 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Bismarck 3 @ MN Magicians 2 – Alex Strand scored twice and Hunter Shepard made 20 saves as the Bobcats picked up a 3-2 road win in Richfield against the Magicians. It was all Bobcats in the 1st period as power play goals from Strand and Jared Pike put the road side ahead, 2-0. The lead increased to 3-0 with another power play goal from Strand in the 2nd period. The Magicians mounted a comeback late in the 3rd period with goals from Mitch Slattery and Jack Christensen, but could not find the equalizer. Will Ulrich made 26 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Janesville 2 @ Fairbanks 7 – Four goals in the 2nd period propelled the Ice Dogs to a 7-2 home win over the Jets. Six different players scored and Todd Burgess had two goals in the win. Fairbanks led 2-1 after one period with goals from Brugess and Reggie Lutz, while Martin Sundberg scored for the Jets.  In the 2nd period, Faurbanks added four more goals including another from Burgess and others from Mitchell Baumann, Marc Sullivan and Alex Mehnert. In the 3rd period, Faribanks got a power play goal from Josef Ingman, while Alex Smith scored on the power play for the Jets. Gavin Nieto made 18 saves in the win. Boxscore

Springfield 2 @ Kenai River 1 (SO) – In a goaltending duel, Niko Della Maggorie made 31 saves to edge Nick Nast’s 38 saves as the Jr. Blues edged Kenai River 2-1 in a shootout. Springfield took a 1-0 lead late in the 1st period with a goal from Luke Radetic. The Brown Bears would respond late in the 3rd period with a goal from Thomas Bowe. After a scoreless overtime, goals in the shootout from Joey Lupo and Anthony Scarsella secured the win for the Jr. Blues. Boxscore

Odessa 1 @ Lone Star 3 – Recently committed Yale recruit Corbin Kaczperski made 23 saves to lead the Brahmas to a 3-1 home win over the Jackalopes. Odessa led 1-0 after a 1st period goal from leading scorer Hampus Sjodahl. The Brahmas answered back in the 2nd period with a goal from Jakob Romo to tie the game at 1-1. In the 3rd period, Joseph Fallon scored the eventual game-winner just two minutes in and Alex Berardinelli also added a goal to secure the 3-1 win. Jon Flakne made 24 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Austin 3 @ Aberdeen 4 (OT) – The Bruins stormed back from a 3-0 deficit, only to see the Wings win over overtime thanks to a goal from Matt Pulver :17 seconds into the bonus frame as Aberdeen beat Austin, 4-3. After a scoreless 1st period, it was all Wings in the opening nine minutes of the 2nd period as goals from Tucker DeYoung, Will Hammer and Colin Raver put the home side ahead, 3-0. The Bruins stormed back with a late 2nd period goal from Justin Misiak and 3rd period goals from Zach Kennedy and Austin Rueschhoff to knot the game at 3-3 before Pulver’s overtime heroics. Peter Thome made 30 saves in the while, Robbie Goor played well in the loss coming in relief to make 21 saves. Boxscore
