NAHL, NA3HL alum Chapie signs NHL contract with Rangers

April 4, 2016
New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton has announced that the team has agreed to terms with free agent forward Adam Chapie, who is an alumni of both the NAHL and NA3HL.

Chapie, 24, skated in 39 games with the UMass-Lowell River Hawks this season, registering 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points, along with a plus-11 rating and 57 penalty minutes. He established collegiate career-highs in games played, goals, points, and plus/minus rating, and tied his collegiate career-high in assists during his senior year. Chapie tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (three), ranked second on UMass-Lowell in goals and shots on goal (102), tied for second in power play goals (four), and ranked third in assists and points in 2015-16. He tallied a point in 25 of 39 games during the season.

The 6-1, 185-pounder skated in 148 collegiate games over four seasons with UMass-Lowell, registering 46 goals and 49 assists for 95 points, along with a plus-16 rating and 105 penalty minutes. Chapie averaged 0.88 points per game over his final two seasons with the River Hawks, registering 66 points (28 goals, 38 assists) in 75 games. Chapie recorded 12 or more goals in each of his final three seasons of collegiate hockey. In addition, he helped UMass-Lowell advance to the Frozen Four during his freshman year in 2012-13, as the River Hawks were Hockey East Regular Season Champions and won the Hockey East Tournament Championship.

Chapie is a true ladder of development success story going from the NA3HL to the NAHL to the NCAA to an NHL contract. Prior to beginning his collegiate career, the Oxford, Michigan native played two seasons with the New Mexico Mustangs of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) from 2010-12. Chapie registered 46 goals and 45 assists for 91 points, along with 119 penalty minutes in 118 career NAHL games.

Prior to playing in the NAHL, Chapie played the 2009-10 season in the CSHL (now the NA3HL) for the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks, recording 69 points (30 goals, 39 assists) in 48 games played.
