Saturday Scores: Bobcats climb standings with another win

Daniel Haider had a hat-trick and an assists in a 4-1 win for Fairbanks on Saturday.

Springfield 1 @ MN Wilderness 3 – Luke Kania made 39 saves to lead the Wilderness to a 3-1 win and weekend home sweep of the visiting Jr. Blues. The Wilderness struck first with a goal late in the 1st period from Jesse Farabee, his first of the season. Springfield answered back in the 2nd period with a goal from Max Nylander. The Wilderness secured the win with two goals in the 3rd period from Pavel Mikhasenok and Michael Zuffante. Springfield goalie Evan Fear made 31 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Odessa 1 @ Shreveport 6 – The Mudbugs swept a two-game home set from the Jackalopes with a big 6-1 win on Saturday as Brendan VanSweden and Frankie Melton each scored twice and John Roberts made 51 saves. Mudbugs goals came from Tomass Zeile and Melton in the 1st period Steven Mather and VanSweden in the 2nd period and Melton and Van Sweden both netting their second of the game in the 3rd period. Zach Heintz had the lone tally for Odessa. Boxscore

Brookings 1 @ Bismarck 2 – Will Ulrich made 31 saves to lead Bismarck to their second win of the weekend in a close 2-1 victory over visiting Brookings. Bismarck opened the scoring early in the 2nd period on a goal from Zach Kennedy. Brookings had the answer early in the 3rd period on a goal from Paul Cotter. The deciding goal came with under seven minutes remaining as Tristan Ashbrook scored his first goal of the season. Former Bobcats goalie Nick Althaus made 32 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Kenai River 1 @ Fairbanks 4 – Daniel Hader was all over the ice as he recorded a hat-trick and had an assist as the Ice Dogs swept the Brown Bears with a 4-1 win on Saturday. Fairbanks opened the scoring just :12 seconds into the game as Hampus Eriksson scored.  Haider then went off for his hat-trick scoring twice in the 1st period and again in the 2nd period. Christopher Lipe had the lone goal for Kenai River in the 3rd period. Josh Sarlo made 30 saves in the win. Boxscore

Topeka 1 @ Lone Star 2 (SO) – Erik Gordon made 23 saves to lead the Brahmas to a 2-1 shootout win and weekend home sweep of Topeka. Despite the low score, both teams had plenty of shots. Lone Star scored first in the 2nd period on a goal from Drake Glover. Topeka answered early in the 3rd period with their lone goal from Marcus Russell. Pete Kessel netted the shootout winner. RoadRunners goalie Ryan Snowden made 33 saves in the shootout loss. Boxscore

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 4 @ New Jersey 11 – The Titans offense erupted for 11 goals in an 11-4 win over the Knights. Todd Goehring and Kyle Perkowski had two goals a piece for the Titans in the win. Six of the 11 goals came in the 1st period, which included two from Goehring and others from Maxim Andreev, Dylan Healey, Ryan Wheeler and Greg Malafronte. The Titans scored four more goals in the 2nd period, which included Perkowski’s two goals and others from Victor Ostling and Jordan Kaplan. Danny Eruzione added a 3rd period goal. The Knights got two goals from Khristian Acosta and others from Reed Robinson and Curtis Carlson. Boxscore

Austin 5 @ Coulee Region 2 – The Bruins spoiled the Chill’s home opener thanks to a 5-2 win on Saturday. Five different players scored for the Bruins, including Evan Cholak in the 1st period, AJ Drobot in the 2nd period and three goals in the 3rd period from Tanner Dufault, Justin Misiak and Travis Kothenbeutel. Chill goals came from Phil Erickson and Shay Donovan. Jake Kucharski got the win in goal making 31 saves, while Artur Pavliukov made 33 saves in the loss. Boxscore

MN Magicians 4 @ Janesville 2 – Ivan Prosuetov made 41 saves to lead the Magicians to a 4-2 win in Janesville, which salvaged a weekend split of the series. Minnesota got a 1st period goal from Pieter von Steinbergs, two goals in the 2nd period from Mitchel Slattery and Cameron Buhl and a 3rd period goal from Brendan Skarda. Jets goals came from Colin Felix in the 1st period and Michael Maloney in the 3rd period. Derek Schaedig took the loss making 19 saves. Boxscore

Minot 5 @ Aberdeen 2 – A three goal 2nd period led Minot to a 5-2 road win in Aberdeen. The Minotauros got two goals in the 1st period from Charles Weiand and Miroslav Mucha and then three more goals in the 2nd period from Jack Murphy, Reid Stefanson and Nolan Swachuk. The Wings goals came from Joey Strada in the 1st period and Riley Murphy in the 3rd period. Lucas Murray made 21 saves in the win, while Matt Ladd made 16 saves in the loss. Boxscore
