Aston defenseman Solomon makes NCAA DI commitment

December 21, 2016

Ryan Solomon is another growing example of an NAPHL to NAHL success story. During the 2012-13 season, Solomon played for the Pikes Peak Miners 16U team.

The Aston Rebels, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that defenseman Ryan Solomon has committed to play NCAA Division I Ice Hockey for Northeastern University. The Huskies play in Hockey East. His commitment begins in the fall of 2017.

Solomon, 20, is tied for first in the North American Hockey League’s plus-minus statistic with a +25. He also leads all defensemen in the league as well as the Rebels in that category. The 6’1”, 180 lb Salt Lake, Utah native is currently ninth on the team with 16 points (6 goals and 10 assists). The left-handed shot Solomon is a superior skater and passer.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to attend and play hockey at such a prestigious school like Northeastern,” stated Solomon. “I fell in love with the culture of the campus and the city, and I cannot picture a better fit for the next four years. I would like to thank all my family, friends and organizations who have helped make my dreams come true. I would like to express a special thank you to coach Coombs and the Aston Rebels,” concluded Solomon.

Solomon is another growing example of an NAPHL to NAHL success story. During the 2012-13 season, Solomon (6’1/180) played for the Pikes Peak Miners 16U team, recording seven points in 17 games played.  He then went onto skate in the NAHL for the Minnesota Magicians in 2014-15 and has spent the past two seasons with the Rebels.

“I couldn’t be happier for Ryan,” stated Rebels head coach Joe Coombs. “His junior hockey career started slowly. When he came to the Rebels he worked extremely hard on and off the ice. He bought into our system and he has flourished ever since. He is the epitome of an Aston Rebels. This commitment is well deserved. Northeastern is getting a fine hockey player but an even better person,” concluded Coombs.

Northeastern University is located in Boston, MA. The Huskies currently have an overall record of 6-7-4.
