Wings, Chill, Jackalopes and Brahmas win on Thursday

With 40 saves in a 1-0 shutout on Thursday, Chill goalie Joe Marcoullier posted his first career NAHL shutout.

Brookings 3 @ Aberdeen 6 – Tyler Bossert had a four-point game, including a hat-trick as the Wings helped their playoff chances thanks to a 6-3 win at home on Thursday over the visiting Blizzard. The Blizzard got on the board first with a goal early in the 1st period from Chase Brand. However, just :22 seconds later, the Wings answered with a goal from Joey Strada to make it 1-1. Two more goals in the period from Colton Fletcher and Colin Raver made it 3-1 Wings. Early in the 2nd period, the Blizzard cut the lead to 3-2 on a goal from Paul Cotter. That’s when Bossert took over as he scored three straight goals in the 2nd period to put the Wings ahead for good. Connor Koviak added the other goal for the Blizzard midway through the 3rd period. Wings goalie Forbes Ploszaj made 28 saves in the win, while Josh Boyko took the loss, making 21 saves. Boxscore

Coulee Region 1 @ Janesville 0 – Joe Marcoullier stopped all 40 shots that came his way for his first career NAHL shutout as the Chill helped their playoff chances with a 1-0 road win in front of a sold out crowd in Janesville. After a scoreless 1st period, the Chill scored the lone goal of the game early in the 2nd period on Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup’s 9th goal of the season with assists to Caleb Schroer and Cale List. Marcoullier made the lead hold from there, which included 18 saves in the 3rd period. Jacob Barczewski made 17 saves in the Jets loss. Boxscore

Amarillo 2 @ Odessa 5 - The Odessa Jackalopes scored two shorthanded goals 29 seconds apart to fuel a comeback and beat the Bulls 5-2. It was a tale of two games between the two teams as the Bulls had the momentum and a 2-0 advantage in the first 29 minutes of play, thanks to markers from George Mika and Steven Ipri. But after that it was Odessa that rallied with three goals in a span of five minutes and then potted two more goals in the third period. After the early Bulls goals, the Jackalopes were able to gain traction thanks to a penalty kill that rewarded them with two goals 29 seconds apart. First Zac Heintz scored on a pass from Zach Zech and then Cooper Zech pushed home a puck at the side of the net when the Bulls couldn’t track down the rebound. The Jackalopes grabbed the lead at the 14:14 mark when the Bulls failed to clear the puck out of their own end. Tyler Pietrowski scored when he converted a rebound in front. The Jackalopes rounded out the scoring with two more goals. The first was by Zach Zech who tallied on a 2 on 1 break and the second was by Ludwig Steinlund who scored on a one timer on the power play. Jonny Hogue made 33 saves in the win, while Brandon Bussi made 36 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Lone Star 4 @ Corpus Christi 3 (SO) – Hunter Stanley scored in regulation and was the only shooter in a 10-man shootout to find the back of the net as he led the Brahmas to a 4-3 shootout win in Corpus Christi on Thursday night. Despite the shootout loss, the IceRays gained a point and clinched a Robertson Cup Playoff spot in the South Division. The teams traded goals throughout the three periods. The IceRays got goals from Cole Filler in the 1st period, Nathan Bryer in the 2nd period and Cole Gammer in the 3rd period, while the Brahmas got goals from David Marabella in the 1st period, Stanley in the 2nd period and Andy Willis in the 3rd period. For Willis, who played for the St. Louis Selects in the NAPHL this season, it was his first career NAHL goal. Brahmas goalie Alec Calvaruso made 19 saves in the win, while Tomas Vomacka made 29 saves in the loss. Boxscore
