The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are excited to announce that forward Brennan Blaszczak, 21, has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey next season at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, members of the WCHA.
Blaszczak, a Troy, Michigan native, led the Jr. Blues this season with 25 goals in 58 games. He also tallied 14 assists to finish with 39 points, which ranked 2nd on the team in scoring during the 2016-17 season.
Blaszczak (6’0/180) was also selected to and played in the 2017 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the Midwest Division team this past season, where he had two points in two games. He also played in the 2016 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the Midwest Division team.
“I’m excited to play for the Nanooks because it’s always been my dream to play at the D1 level,” Blaszczak told Michigan Hockey Magazine. “UAF was a good fit for me because my speed is my greatest asset and they have an Olympic size rink up there. They also have top notch facilities and an all-around great atmosphere and I can’t wait to head up there and get things rolling.”
After coming to Springfield’s Pre-Draft Camp in 2015, Blaszczak was invited back to the team’s Main Camp and made the team’s 2015-16 season roster. In 114 games with Springfield, he amounted 41 goals and 29 assists. His 41 goals is tied for 19th all-time in Springfield history.
