New Jersey forward Helmuth makes NCAA commitment

June 2, 2017
The New Jersey Titans, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Gordie Helmuth has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey and attend school at SUNY-Geneseo beginning in the fall of 2017.

“It’s truly an honor to commit to such a storied and successful program like Geneseo. The school and hockey team have such a rich tradition that, again, to be committed and to wear their jersey soon is an honor,” said Helmuth.

The 21-year old forward out of Royal Oak, Michigan, has had himself a great season with the Titans after scoring 20 goals and 30 assists for 50 points, ranking second on the team.

Helmuth (6'0/180) was also selected to and played in the 2017 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the East Division team, where he had two points in two games.

“It’s a nice feeling to know what my hockey future will look like, and feels like some weight off is of my shoulders. The coaches at Geneseo expect me to compete every day, develop my game, and bring what offense I can throughout my time there, and I am honored to have that opportunity,” he added.

Geneseo competes in the SUNYAC and is coached by Chris Schultz, who is currently in his 11th season as head coach of the program.

“We are so happy and proud of Gordie. Coach Schultz is getting a great hockey player and young man. Gordie was instrumental in our success this season. His ability to contribute big time offense allowed our team to play our style correctly. Gordie was a force for us on our power play from day one and adding him to our team in September gave us the depth and strength down the middle we felt we needed,” said head coach Craig Doremus.

“I think Gordie still has his best hockey in front of him. He wants to get better and has a high hockey IQ, I truly believe he will be a staple in their line up and hopefully make a major impact on their line up all four years.”

Helmuth is the fifth Titan player to commit to an NCAA school this season.

The New Jersey Titans would like to congratulate Gordie and his family on being rewarded for all the hard work devoted to get him to this point.
