Sunday Wrap-Up: Johnstown snaps skid with win over Rebels
Johnstown 3 @ Philadelphia 1 - The Johnstown Tomahawks snapped a long skid with a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Rebels Sunday evening at the Class of 1923 Arena.
Johnstown fired home the game's first goal 12 minutes into the first period when Cade Groton wrapped the puck around and behind Rebels netminder Eli Billing for his second of the season. Ben Schmidling picked up the lone helper.
The Tomahawks wasted little time adding to the lead. Defenseman Chase Davidson's point shot found its way past the glove side of Billing for a 2-0 Tomahawks advantage. Roman Kraemer and Samuel Solensky assisted Davidson's first NAHL goal.
Later in the period, Tomahawks goaltender Jack Leavy would make several key saves including a 2-on-1 to keep the game 2-0 after one period.
Johnstown increased the lead to 3-0 six minutes into the second period with another goal from Groton, his third of the season. Brendan White registered the assist.
Philadelphia would get onto the scoreboard at 16:14 of the second period after a Justin Smith power play goal to cut the Tomahawks' lead to 3-1.
The Rebels would fire plenty of pucks at Leavy in the third period, but the 6-5 netminder stood tall as the Tomahawks left the Class of 1923 Arena with a 3-1 win.
