Rebels move into 1st place with win on Wednesday

NAPHL grad and Minnesota Wilderness goalie Ryan Fanti made 30 saves in a 4-1 win on Wednesday night.

Philadelphia 6 @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3 – The Philadelphia Rebels moved into sole possession of 1st place in the East Division as forward Jensen Zerban had two goals and an assist in a 6-3 road win on Wednesday. The Rebels were bolstered by a fast start, which saw them jumped out to a 5-0 lead, including four goals in the 1st period. Nick Peck scored his first of the season and the Rebels also got goals in the 1st period from Zerban, Ryan Patrick and Seth Bergeron, who also scored his first goal. Brandon Stanley scored for the Rebels in the 2nd period to make it 5-0. The Knights mounted a comeback with three straight goals to make it 5-3 midway through the 3rd period, which included goals from Jack Olmstead, Mike Gelatt and Justin Engelkes, but a late 3rd period goal from Zerban secured the 6-3 win. Ryan Keane made 30 saves in the win, while Knights goalies Christian Stoever and David Tomeo combined to make 25 saves.

Janesville 3 @ Coulee Region 2 (SO) – Sam Renlund scored in regulation and a shootout goal as the Jets pushed their division lead to three points thanks to a 3-2 win in Coulee Region. After a scoreless 1st period, the Chill jumped ahead 1-0 in the 2nd period with a goal from Bailey Martin on the power play. The Jets answered with Renlund’s 2nd goal of the season later in the period. Again, the Chill would regain a one goal lead as Connor Zilisch scored early in the 3rd period, only to have that answered three minutes later by Jets forward Jakov Novak, who scored his 10th goal of the season to make it 2-2. Novak and Renlund then scored in the shootout, while the Chill were blanked by Jets goalie Daniel Lebedeff, who made 38 saves in the game. Chill goalie Josh Graziano made 47 saves in the shootout loss.

Shreveport 2 @ Lone Star 1 – In a battle of South leaders, the Shreveport Mudbugs got 19 saves from the recently committed Gustavs Grigals to pick up a 2-1 road win against Lone Star and push the Mudbugs lead in the South to three points. The Brahmas would score early in the 1st period on a goal from Trevor Zenas to make it 1-0. That lead stood until early in the 3rd period when the Shreveport power play went to work. Kieran Durgan tied the game at 1-1 with his 7th of the season and then six minutes later, defenseman scored his second goal of the season, which stood as the game-winner. Mitchell Gibson took the loss in goal for the Brahmas, making 21 saves.

MN Magicians 1 @ MN Wilderness 4 – In the battle of Minnesota, the Wilderness got 30 saves from NAPHL grad Ryan Fanti as they beat the Magicians, 4-1. The Wilderness scored three times in the 1st period, which included the game’s first goal from Brendan Studioso, who was on call up from the NA3HL’s North Iowa Bulls and netted his first NAHL goal. Just over a minute later a goal from Kosta Likourezos made it 2-0 and Isaac Kobienia scored later in the period to make it 3-0. In the 2nd period, the Wilderness widened the lead to 4-0 with Nick Altmann’s second goal of the season. The Magicians would finally solve Fanti late in the period, as their lone goal came from defenseman Matt Denman. Isaiah Saville took the loss in goal for the Magicians, making 27 saves.
