Saturday Scores: Mudbugs keep rolling, punch playoff ticket

Kenai River goalie Kevin Lake stopped 67 of 71 shots in a weekend sweep of Johnstown.

Odessa 0 @ Shreveport 2 - Jaxon Castor made 25 saves and the Mudbugs shutout the Odessa Jackalopes for the second straight day as Shreveport won 2-0. The win clinched a spot in the Robertson Cup Playoffs, becoming the first team in the South Division to do so. Brendan VanSweden and Cameron Cook provided the offense for the Mudbugs. Alex Camarre took the loss as he made 28 saves.

Minot 1 @ Bismarck 3 - The Bismarck Bobcats received goals from Mitchell Walinski, Andrew Bellant and Adam Stacho as they defeated the Minot Minotauros 3-1. John Roberts was nearly perfect as he allowed just one goal on 28 Minot opportunities. Alex Adams scored the lone Minot goal while Jack Robbel made 27 saves in the loss.

Johnstown 2 @ Kenai River 3 (SO) – Kenai River goalie Kevin Lake was stellar for the second consecutive night in goal as he made 34 saves and then stopped all five shooters in the shootout to help the Brown Bears to a 3-2 shootout win and weekend sweep of the Tomahawks. The Brown Bears got both their goals in the 2nd period from Sutton McDonald and Zach Krajnik. Meanwhile, Ben Schmidling and Andrew Andary scored for the Tomahawks. David Kaplan had the shootout winner for the Brown Bears. Jack Leavy made 37 saves in the shootout loss.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 2 @ Fairbanks 7 – Jack Johnston had two goals and an assist and Tanner Schachle had four points as the Ice Dogs ran their winning streak to 21 straight games with a 7-2 win on Saturday, completing a weekend sweep of the Knights. The Ice Dogs got a 1st period goal from Schachle, four goals in the 2nd period from Samuel Ruffin, John Stampohar, Robert Blueger, and Johnston, and another goal in the 3rd period from Johnstown and Connor Chilton. Reed Robinson and Anthony Firriolo scored for the Knights.

Northeast 1 @ New Jersey 5 - Ryan Naumovski and Nick Boyagian each had three points to lead the New Jersey Titans to a 5-1 win over the Northeast Generals. Kyler Head and Cam Kuhl each scored as well in victory. Matt Ladd made 23 saves to earn his eighth win of the season. Justin Jallen scored the only goal for Northeast while Marko Sturma made 28 saves. Fairbanks got a 1st period goal from Schachle, four goals in the second period from Johnston, Samuel Ruffin, John Stampohar, and Robert Blueger, and 3rd period goals from Johnston and Connor Chilton. The Knights got their goals from Reed Robinson and Anthony Firriolo. Logan Neaton made 20 saves in the win.

Springfield 3 @ Coulee Region 0 - The Springfield Jr. Blues bounced back with a 3-0 win over the Coulee Region Chill. Max Brainin had a goal and an assist while Nick Schultze and Sam Swanson found the back of the net also. Jurja Ovecka was spectacular as he made 36 saves for his first shutout of the season. Emil Zetterquist got the loss as he made 27 saves.

Lone Star 3 @ Amarillo 2 - Steven Ipri’s goal and assist led the Brahmas to a 3-2 victory over the Amarillo Bulls. Jon Russell and Julian Biondo also lit the lamp in the Lone Star win. Mitchell Gibson earned the win between the pipes as he turned aside 25 shots. Austin O’Rourke scored against his former team while Nick Anderson also scored in the loss. Jason Grande made 31 saves.

Aberdeen 4 @ Austin 2 - The Aberdeen Wings are still in control of the Central Division after a 4-2 victory against Austin. Colton Fletcher, Nic Sicoly and Dalton Weigh all had a goal and an assist for Aberdeen. Zach Noble scored his 15th of the year as well. Matt Vernon made 16 saves en route to his 12th win this season. Xander Lamppa and Alex Mella scored for Austin while Alex Schilling made 15 saves.

Topeka 1 @ Corpus Christi 2 (OT) - Brendan Miller’s goal 46 seconds into overtime lifted the Corpus Christi IceRays to a 2-1 victory over Topeka. Julian Makary scored the IceRays one goal in regulation, a shorthanded tally. Chad Veltri was excellent as he made 30 saves. Lucas Herrmann scored the only goal for the RoadRunners and Sam Metcalf made 23 saves.

Brookings 4 @ MN Wilderness 5 (SO) - For the second straight night, the Wilderness were able to defeat the Brookings Blizzard in a shootout, 5-4. Gino Lucia scored the game winner in the shootout in addition to three assists in regulation. Edward Lindelow scored a pair of goals while C.J. Regula and Ben Ward also scored in the Wilderness win. Jacob Sibell made 22 saves. Doug Larson scored two goals of his own and Brookings also received offense from Parker Revering and Josh Boyer. Adam Brizgala was stuck with the loss despite making 26 saves.

Janesville 3 @ MN Magicians 1 - The Janesville Jets offense came to life on Saturday night as they knocked off the Magicians by a score of 3-1. Kip Hoffmann scored a goal and had two assists. Erik Palmqvist and Benji Eckerle also scored for Janesville. Jakov Novak added to his league lead with three points. Garrett Nieto only needed to make 15 saves to get the win in goal. John Keranen scored for Minnesota while Isaiah Saville made 31 saves.
