April 24, 2019
The Aberdeen Wings, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Stepan Pokorny has committed to play NCAA Division I Hockey for Ferris State University in the WCHA.
Pokorny, 18, is in his first season of playing junior hockey in the NAHL. The 5’11/185 lbs. native of Kolin, Czech Republic is among the NAHL leaders in rookie scoring this season with 25 goals and 29 assists for 54 points in 59 games played, which ranks 5th on the Wings. He also has recorded three point in the first four playoff games this season.
Pokorny is another great example of the NAPHL to NAHL Ladder of Development success. Before playing for the Wings this season, Pokorny spent time with the Tampa Scorpions U16 & U18 teams of the NAPHL. In 22 career NAPHL games, Pokorby recorded 27 points.
During the 2017-18 season he was named to the All-NAPHL 18U 1st Team. He also played in the 2018 NAPHL 18U All-Star Game and the 2018 NAHL 18U Top Prospects Tournament.
“Stepan has a very high hockey I and passion for the game. His ability to take over games has led him to not only win this year’s Wings Rookie of the Year Award, but warrant a lot of attention from the next level. Stepan’s ceiling is very high and his best hockey is ahead of him,” said Wings Head Coach Scott Langer.
“I am very excited and honored to announce my commitment to further my education and hockey career at Ferris State University. I want to thank my family, ownership, coaches & teammates for all of the support they have given me throughout my career. I truly wouldn’t have done it without them. I look forward to beginning this new chapter in becoming a Bulldog,” said Pokorny.
