Springfield forward Brainin makes NCAA commitment
May 31, 2019
The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that Top Prospects forward Max Brainin has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at St. Norbert College.
Brainin, 21, finished up his second season with the Jr. Blues and his third season of junior hockey overall. During the 2018-19 campaign, Brainin put up 20 goals and 39 assists to set a new career high in points. His 59 points ranked third on the team and his +13 rating was ranked fourth.
He was also selected to and played in the 2019 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the Midwest Division team.
In 125 career NAHL games, Brainin tallied 38 goals and 65 assists for 103 career points. He broke the 100-point plateau for his NAHL career this past season, one of four players to complete the task for the Jr. Blues.
“Max is a hard worker with a hard shot and can pass the puck well,” Jr. Blues head coach Tyler Rennette said. “He is a leader on and off the ice and we wish him the best of luck next season at St. Norbert's.”
“I am excited to announce my commitment to St. Norbert College. Thank you to everyone who's supported and helped me along the process. I feel honored to receive this opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started,” stated Brainin on Twitter.
Brainin will join teammates Brendan Aird and Ben Schmidling at St. Norbert College as each player has committed this month. With Brainin’s commitment, he will become the 9th Jr. Blues alumnus to play for the Green Knights and the 15th player to have committed to play college hockey this season.
St. Norbert plays out of De Pere, Wisconsin and are members of the Midwest Conference. The Green Knights have won five Division III National Championships (most recently in 2018), have been National Runner-Up four times, have made 12 Frozen Four appearances, and have gone to the National Tournament 19 times since 1997.
