NAHL Weekend Preview

November 15, 2019
The North American Hockey League (NAHL) gets back to a full schedule of action this weekend with 25 games on the schedule on Friday through Sunday.

It was another great week for the NAHL in terms of NCAA commitments as more current players and a few alumni made NCAA Division 1 commitments this past week, bringing the 2019-20 season total to 123.

The majority of teams are a third of the way through the season and the push to make the top four in the standings is officially on.

Just three months remain until the 2020 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, which will take place from February 17-18 in Attleboro, Massachusetts. The number of players each team will be able to send is based upon their place in the standings in mid-January.

In the Central Division this week, the St. Cloud Blizzard have the tough task of trying to slow down the 1st place Bismarck Bobcats as they square off in a two-game series in Bismarck. The Bobcats are 11-0-1 in their last 12 games and are the only NAHL team with only one regulation loss. The Austin Bruins put their three-game winning streak on the line this weekend as they host the Aberdeen Wings, with the two teams tied in the standings. The final series is a match-up of 2nd and 3rd place teams as the Wilderness host the Minotauros for two games.

In the East Division, the Maryland Black Bears will take to the road to try and slow down the hottest team in the NAHL, the New Jersey Titans, who have won 10 straight games and have the best record in the league at 15-2-0. The Maine Nordiques look to get back into playoff position as they host the 2nd place Johnstown Tomahawks for two games. The 4th place Northeast Generals take to the road to face the Jamestown Rebels for a pair of games as Jamestown look to earn valuable points to start climbing the standings. The WBS Knights are idle.

In the Midwest Division, a three-game series continues in Kenai River after the Brown Bears extended their winning streak to five straight games with a 4-1 win over Springfield on Thursday. Two more games remain between the two clubs on Friday and Saturday. In Fairbanks, the Ice Dogs, who are tied for 1st place, host the Chippewa Steel, who have lost four straight games since their hot start. The final series features the Janesville Jets at the Minnesota Magicians, with the Magicians looking to snap a five-game losing streak.

In the South Division, a battle of 1st and 2nd place goes down this weekend in Topeka as the Brahmas visit the Pilots with the two teams separated by just a single point in the standings. The New Mexico Ice Wolves continue their homestand and look to extend their winning streak as they host the Amarillo Bulls, who are 4-0-1 in their last five games. The final series has the Corpus Christi IceRays in Odessa to face the Jackalopes for three games with both teams needing points to get back into playoff position. The Shreveport Mudbugs are idle.
