NAHL Weekend Preview

December 6, 2019
The first full weekend in December features a very busy schedule for NAHL teams as 24 games are on the slate on Friday and Saturday.

We are just over two months away until the 2020 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, which will be held on February 17-28, 2020 in Attleboro, Massachusetts.

Five more current NAHL players made NCAA Division 1 commitments this past week, bringing the season total to 140 NCAA Division 1 commitments to date.

As expected, it is a long-jam in the Central Division with the top four teams separated by just six points. The Aberdeen Wings are 5-0-1 in their last six and have their sights set on 1st place as they host the Minnesota Wilderness for a pair of games. Meanwhile, the 1st place Bismarck Bobcats are just two points ahead of Aberdeen and have their hands full this weekend as they have a home-and-home series with the 3rd place Minot Minotauros. The final series has the Austin Bruins and St. Cloud Blizzard locked up in a two-game, home-and-home series.

In the East Division, all eyes will be on Johnstown as the 2nd place Tomahawks host the 1st place New Jersey Titans with the two separated by just three points. The Maryland Black Bears look to maintain their position in the Top 4 in the standings as they host the Jamestown Rebels. The final series has the Maine Nordiques in Attleboro to face the Northeast Generals. The Generals defeated the Nordiques earlier in the week by a 7-5 score. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights are idle.

In the Midwest Division, things are tight at the top with the Kenai River Brown Bears holding a one-point edge over the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Both teams are at home this weekend as the Brown Bears host the Janesville Jets, who will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak, while the Ice Dogs host the Minnesota Magicians, who have won two straight games. The Springfield Jr. Blues will step outside the division and face a tough road test in Topeka against the Pilots. The Chippewa Steel are idle.

In the South Division, the Shreveport Mudbugs begin an eight-game homestand as they host the New Mexico Ice Wolves for a pair of games. The Odessa Jackalopes look to snap a six-game losing streak as they host the 2nd place Amarillo Bulls, who are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. The 1st place Lone Star Brahmas will reach the midway point of their season as they visit the Corpus Christi IceRays, who are just one point out of the fourth and final playoff spot, as they also reach the midway point of their season this weekend.
