Saturday Scores: Wings continue streak with dramatic win

Minnesota-Duluth recruit and WBS Knights goalie Zach Stejskal made 62 saves in a two-game sweep this weekend.

Aberdeen 6 @ Bismarck 5 (OT) - Cade Neilson ruined the Bismarck Bobcats magical comeback by scoring 17 seconds into overtime to give the Aberdeen Wings a 6-5 win over Bismarck. The Bobcats overcame a 5-1 deficit to force the extra period before falling on Neilson’s seventh of the year and second of the game. Clayton Cosentino and Riley Murphy registered a goal and two assists for Aberdeen while Jordan Randall had a goal and an assist and Antonio DiPaolo also found himself on the scoresheet. Henry Welsch made 24 saves to pick up his second win of the weekend. Tim Piechowski had two goals for the Bobcats while Grant Johnson, Austin Schwartz, and Willy Stauber scored for Bismarck. Andrew Miller and Ryan Ullan combined for 26 saves.
 
Jamestown 2 @ WBS Knights 3 (OT) – Shane Murphy scored two minutes into overtime to give the Knights a 3-2 win and weekend home sweep of the Rebels. The Knights got the scoring started in the 1st period as Artur Turansky scored his second goal in as many games to make it 1-0. The lead swelled to 2-0 in the 2nd period as Nikita Asylaev lit the lamp for his 4th goal of the season. The Rebels stormed back in the 3rd period to tie the game at 2-2 as Connor Carlile and Noah Finstrom scored. In the OT, Murphy got a nice pass on a 2-on-1 from Jordan Strand to complete the win and sweep. Knights goalie Zach Stejskal made 40 saves in the win, while Jon Howe made 29 saves in the loss.
 
Odessa 1 @ Topeka 5 - A four goal second period propelled the Topeka Pilots to a 5-1 victory over the Odessa Jackalopes as Shawn Kennedy, Matthew Francois and Kaiden Scott all had a goal and an assist in the victory. Lucas Sandoval and Quinn Green also found the back of the net for the Pilots. Josh Langford made 17 saves to grab the win in goal. Matt Clark scored the only goal for Odessa while Noah Ping made 29 saves.
 
New Mexico 0 @ Amarillo 3 – Thanks to the second straight shutout from goaltender Charlie Glockner, the Amarillo Bulls posted their second win of a three-game weekend series against the New Mexico Ice Wolves thanks to a 3-0 win on Saturday. The Bulls got on the board first late in the 1st period thanks to a goal from Ty Black. The lead increased to 2-0 midway through the 2nd period as Lauri Sertti scored his 4th goal of the season. Late in the 3rd period, Jordan Venegoni added an empty-net goal to secure the wins. Glockner stopped all 15 shots that came his way for the shutout win, while Garrett MacKay made 35 saves in the loss.
 
Maryland 4 @ Maine 1 – The Black Bears won their second straight game of their road series against the Nordiques thanks to a 4-1 win on Saturday, led by Kyle Oleksiuk’s two goals and one assist. Oleksiuk opened the scoring in the 1st period with his 7th goal of the season. The Black Bears made it 2-0 early in the 2nd period as Andrew Remer scored on a breakaway. The lead swelled to 3-0 early in the 3rd period as Oleksiuk scored his second goal of the game. Maine would get on the board less than two minutes later as Kevin Pitts scored his 9th goal of the season. Just :13 seconds later, Jackson Sterrett scored to push the Maryland lead back to three. Black Bears goalie Cooper Black made 25 saves in the win, while Avery Sturtz made 22 saves in the loss.
 
Kenai River 7 @ Springfield 3 – A four-goal 3rd period propelled Kenai River to a 7-3 win in the rubber match of a three-game road series against the Jr. Blues on Saturday. Skylar Gutierrez had two goals in the Brown Bears win. The Brown Bears got a goal in the 1st period from Preston Weeks. They then erased a 2-1 Jr. Blues lead late in the 2nd period with goals from Jake Quinn and Gutierrez to make it 3-2. The goals continued in the 3rd period as Gutierrez added his second of the game and also included goals from Daymin Dodge, Peter Morgan, and Brandon Lajoie. Jr Blues goals came from Carson Jones, Deniel Holmqvist, and Max Osborne. Brown Bears goalie Landon Pavlisin made 38 saves in the win, while Ryan Wilson made 23 saves in the loss.
 
Fairbanks 8 @ Janesville 0 - Tyler Deweese led the offensive attack with two goals as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs demolished the Janesville Jets 8-0. Mason Plante and Jack Johnston had a goal and an assist in the victory while Parker Brown, Luke Ciolli, Adam Eisele, and Barak Braslavski all found the back of the net in the win for the Ice Dogs. Austin Ryman scored a shutout as he stopped 13 shots in the win. Grant Riley denied 20 shots for the Jets.
 
Minot 3 @ Austin 2 (SO) – Nik Armstrong-Kingkade had a regulation and the shootout-winning goal to help Minot to a 3-2 shootout win on Saturday, earning a weekend road split in Austin. Connor Mylymok opened the scoring in the 1st period for the Bruins. Kingkade then tied the game at 1-1 with the lone goal in the 2nd period. Minot took a 2-1 lead with a goal early in the 3rd period from Owen Baumgartner, but the Bruin would equalize with just :01 second left in regulation as Ben Almquist scored his 17th goal of the season. Kingkade would then score the only goal in the shootout to secure the extra point. Ben Garrity made 31 saves in the win and Brett Miller made 27 saves in the loss.
 
Johnstown 4 @ New Jersey 1 – Tomahawks goalie Alex Tracy made 31 saves to help Johnstown to a 4-1 win on Saturday as the Tomahawks earned a weekend road split in New Jersey. Christian Gorscak and Alex Kouznetsov each had three points in the win. Johnstown scored the opening goal in the 1st period thanks to a tally from Spencer DenBeste. The Titans tied the game at 1-1 just :10 seconds into the 2nd period as Ole Andersen lit the lamp. From there, it was all Tomahawks as Malik Alishlalov scored later in the 2nd period to make it 2-1 and then Andrew Murphy scored towards the end of the period to make it 3-1. Gorscak would add an insurance goal in the 3rd period to make it a 4-1 final. Titans goalie Arseni Sergeev made 22 saves in the loss.
 
MN Wilderness 6 @ St. Cloud 0 - The Minnesota Wilderness blanked the St. Cloud Blizzard 6-0 as Garrett Worth potted a pair of goals on Saturday night. Alec Cokley and Bram Scheerer tallied a goal and an assist in the win. Lewis Crosby and Jacob Herter also lit the lamp for the Wilderness. Kaleb Johnson stopped all 21 shots he faced en route to picking up his second shutout of the season. Sam Metcalf made 36 saves in a losing effort.
 
Lone Star 3 @ Shreveport 1 - Cayden Bailey allowed just one goal on 35 shots as the Lone Star Brahmas took down the Shreveport Mudbugs 3-1. Michal Stinil, Evan Googins and Thomas Daskas all lit the lamp for Lone Star. Matt Weber scored the lone goal for the Mudbugs. Richie Parent and Maiszon Balboa teamed up to make 30 stops. 
 
MN Magicians 2 @ Chippewa 6 - Braiden Dorfman’s four points led the Chippewa Steel to a 6-2 win over the Minnesota Magicians. Luke Farthing, Ryan Kerchoff, and Gordon Whalen all had a goal and an assist for Chippewa. Ian Famulak and Jake Vaughan also scored in the win for the Steel. Grant Boldt made 30 saves to pick up his eighth win of the year. Nick Lanigan and Lucas Kanta provided the offense for Minnesota while Wes Mankowski stopped 31 shots for the Magicians.
