January 2, 2020
The Bismarck Bobcats of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Ethan Gauer has officially committed to play college hockey at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
“It’s a good fit,” Gauer said. “They showed a lot of interest, and they were all really good with the process.”
Gauer, 20, is currently tied for first among Bobcat defensemen in scoring this season with 16 points in 25 games. His +15 rating leads all Bobcat defensemen and is second on the team.
“Ethan is a great puck-moving defenseman,” said Bobcats head coach Layne Sedevie. “He’s got elite feet, which is a reason why he’s had a lot of success here.”
The 6’0/180 lbs. native of Farmington, Minnesota, is in the midst of a breakout season, with 16 points this year after putting up five points in 54 games last season. He has 15 points in his last 19 games, including seven points in December alone.
“I had a boost of confidence going into this year being a veteran,” Gauer said. “Knowing I can make those plays and shut guys down.”
“The progression that he’s made from last year to this year… he’s become one of our top defenseman,” Sedevie said.
