NAHL Weekend Preview

January 17, 2020
The NAHL gets back into action this weekend as all 26 teams are on the ice as the push for the playoffs continues.

This weekend also marks the final opportunity for teams to get points in the standings before they are frozen to determine how many spots each team will receive in the 2020 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament.

The 2020 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament will take place from February 17-18 at the New England Sports Village in Attleboro, Massachusetts.

The NCAA commitments continued this past week, which included four announcing their commitments on Thursday alone, and the NAHL currently has 168 NCAA commitments to date for the 2019-20 season.

In the Central Division, the hottest team in the NAHL, the Austin Bruins, put their 8-0-2 point streak on the line as they host the Minot Minotauros for two games with the teams in 3rd and 4th place respectively. The 1st place Aberdeen Wings, who are 9-1-0 in their last 10 will host the last place St. Cloud Blizzard for two games. The 2nd place Bismarck Bobcats stay on the road after their 4-3 on Thursday in St. Cloud as they continue north to face the Minnesota Wilderness for two games in Cloquet.

In the East Division, the 1st place New Jersey Titans will try to add to their two-game winning streak as they host the Northeast Generals for a pair of games. The Generals are 10 points out of the 4th and final playoff spot. In Johnstown this weekend, the Maryland Black Bears will visit the Tomahawks trying to snap a three-game slide, while the Tomahawks are comfortably in 2nd place in the East, while Maryland sits one point out of 3rd. The WBS Knights are in Jamestown to take on the Rebels. Meanwhile, the Maine Nordiques take their first ever trip to Alaska to take on the Kenai River Brown Bears from the Midwest Division.

In the Midwest Division, the two Alaska teams are back home as the 1st place Fairbanks Ice Dogs, who are 7-0-1 in their last eight games, host the New Mexico Ice Wolves, who are on a season-high three-game winning streak. The Kenai River Brown Bears will be looking to snap their five-game losing skid as they host Maine. The 3rd place Chippewa Steel put their three-game winning streak on the line with a series in Springfield against the Jr. Blues. The final series will be a good one as the Janesville Jets and Minnesota Magicians, who are tied for the 4th and final playoff spot with 27 points apiece will battle in Minneapolis.

In the South Division, New Mexico takes their first ever trip to Alaska to take on Fairbanks. The 1st place Amarillo Bulls put their five-game winning streak on the line as they are in Shreveport to take on the Mudbugs, who have won six in a row. The Lone Star Brahmas also put their six-game winning streak on the line as they host the Corpus Christi IceRays, who are looking to snap a nine-game losing streak. The Topeka Pilots are firmly in a playoff spot as they look to add to their five-game point streak as they host the Odessa Jackalopes, who have lost 16 straight games.
