Saturday Scores: Brahmas move back into 1st place with 8th straight win

Aberdeen Wings forward Mack Byers had a hat-trick and two assists in a 6-2 win on Saturday.

Corpus Christi 0 @ Lone Star 4 – Lone Star Brahmas goalie Cayden Bailey stopped all 22 shots that came his way for his 6th shutout of the season as the Brahmas blanked the IceRays, 4-0 on Saturday, which completed a weekend sweep. The Brahmas put the game away early with three goals in the 1st period from Drew DeCarlo, Joey Baez, and Malcolm Palmer. CJ Walker added a 3rd period goal to complete the 4-0 final. IceRays goalie Cal Sandquist made 22 saves in the loss.
 
Bismarck 0 @ MN Wilderness 4 – Wilderness goalie Kaleb Johnson stopped all 29 shots that came his way to lead the Wilderness to a 4-0 win on Saturday, completing a weekend sweep of the Bobcats. The Wilderness seized momentum late in the 1st period on a goal from Tyler Watkins. Early in the 2nd period, the lead swelled to 2-0 as Garrett Worth scored. The Wilderness put the game away in the 3rd period with a pair of goals from Chikara Hanzawa. Bobcats goalie Andrew Miller took the loss, making 24 saves.
 
St. Cloud 2 @ Aberdeen 6 – Mack Byers had a hat-trick and two assists to cap off an eight-point weekend as the Wings cruised to a 6-2 win on Saturday over the Blizzard. Goals from Byers and Jakub Breault in the 1st period put Aberdeen ahead 2-0. The lead swelled to 4-0 in the 2nd period as Byers scored two more times to complete his hat-trick. St. Cloud made it a 4-2 game right after that with goals from Ryan O’Neil and Brock Draeger, but the Wings held firm and more goals from Huston Karpman and another from Breault. Wings goalie Henry Welsch made 22 saves in the win, while Sam Metcalf made 32 saves in the loss.
 
Odessa 1 @ Topeka 6 - Six different Pilots lit the lamp as Topeka finished off the sweep of Odessa with a 6-1 win on Saturday. Quinn Green led all skaters with a goal and two assists while Shawn Kennedy notched a goal and an assist. Austin McCarthy, Nick Nardecchia, Michael Muschitiello and Shane Hathaway all scored in the win for Topeka. Josh Langford won his sixth game of the season by making 28 saves. Chace McCardle scored the lone goal while Zach Stern made 47 stops. 
 
New Mexico 0 @ Fairbanks 5 - Austin Ryman stopped all 25 shots that came his way for his 5th shutout of the season as the Ice Dogs completed a weekend home sweep of New Mexico thanks to a 5-0 win on Saturday. After a scoreless 1st period, the Ice Dogs seized control in the 2nd period with three goals from Jasper Lester, Parker Brown, and Matt Koethe. Fairbanks added two more goals in the 3rd period from Mason Plante and Adam Eisele to complete the weekend sweep. Ice Wolves goalie Garrett MacKay made 28 saves in the loss.
 
Northeast 4 @ New Jersey 6 - Matt Cameron potted a pair of goals and Ole Andersen notched a goal and two assists as the New Jersey Titans completed the sweep of the Northeast Generals with a 6-4 victory on Saturday night. Gavin Gulash registered a goal and an assist while Josef Glamos and Nick DeSantis also scored for the Titans. Arseni Sergeev made 34 saves to improve to 10-3 on the year. Ethan Destefani scored twice while Rickey Boysen and Tyler Cooper scored for the Generals. Joey Stanizzi took the loss in goal as he made 29 saves.
 
Maine 4 @ Kenai River 2 – The Nordiques completed a weekend road sweep of the Black Bears thanks to a 4-2 win on Saturday night. After a scoreless 1st period, Kenai River took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd period with goals from Brandon Lajoie and Logan Ritchie, after Noah Kane scored first for Maine. In the 3rd period, the Nordiques scored three goals to come from behind and win as Casper Soderling, Trent Grimshaw, and Kevin Pitts all lit the lamp. Maine goalie Avery Sturtz made 36 saves in the win, while Danny Fraga made 34 saves in the loss.
 
Maryland 3 @ Johnstown 4 (OT) - Carson Grainer’s goal in overtime propelled the Johnstown Tomahawks to a 4-3 win and a weekend sweep of the Maryland Black Bears. Tristan Poissant, Reed Stark and Andrew Murphy all found the back of the net for the Tomahawks. David Tomeo needed just 22 saves in order to pick up the win. Garrett Szydlowski, Cameron Recchi and Reid Leibold netted goals for Maryland. Andrew Takacs made 31 stops for the Black Bears.
 
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 5 @ Jamestown 2 - Lincoln Hatten notched a hat trick as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights topped the Jamestown Rebels 5-2. Egor Postnov and Shane Murphy also scored in the win for the Knights. Alex Contey earned the win in goal as he made 33 stops for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Nick Siffringer provided all of the offense for the Rebels while Hunter Garvey and Noah West combined to make 36 saves in the loss.
 
Chippewa 3 @ Springfield 7 - Jonathan Panisa’s hat trick led the Springfield offense as they defeated the Chippewa Steel 7-3. Caden Villegas tallied a goal and three helpers while Danilla Larionovs had a goal and two assists. Leo Bacallao and Aaron Swanson also found the back of the net for the Jr. Blues. Joe Sharib picked up his first NAHL win by making 27 saves. Spencer Oyler notched a goal and two assists while Jake Vaughan and Connor Szmul also scored in the loss. Trent Burnham and Grant Boldt teamed up to make 34 saves. 
 
Amarillo 3 @ Shreveport 4 – The Mudbugs came from behind, scoring three goals in the 3rd period, to defeat the Bulls 4-3 on Saturday and earn a weekend split. Things looked good for the Bulls early on as they scored three goals in the 1st period to take a 3-1 lead to the lockerroom, which included tallies from Nick Stapleton, Oliver Bezick, and Aaron White. Ryan Waltman had the lone Mudbugs goal. In the 3rd period, Shreveport scored three times to pick up the come from behind win, which included goals from Jacob Smith, Brent Keefer, and Carson Nichols. Richie Parent picked up the win in goal after coming in the game in relief Maiszon Balboa. Charlie Glockner made 30 saves in the loss.
 
Minot 2 @ Austin 3 - Hugh Larkin’s goal in the closing minutes of the third period sealed a 3-2 win for the Austin Bruins over the Minot Minotauros. Jed Pietila got the game’s first goal late in the first period before Jay Buchholz tied the game up for Minot. Dante Sheriff put the Bruins back into the lead before Andranik Armstrong-Kingkade tied the game again just before the end of the second period. Brett Miller made 25 saves to grab the win in goal while AJ Ruskowski stopped 29 saves in a losing effort. 
 
Janesville 1 @ MN Magicians 4 - The Minnesota Magicians leapfrogged the Janesville Jets and now hold on to the final playoff spot in the Midwest Division as the Magicians defeated the Jets 4-1. Trevor Kukkonen got the party started just over two minutes into the game with his third goal of the year. Devlin McCabe scored just 13 seconds later to double the lead. Justin Thompson got the Jets within one with his third of the season but that’s as close as the Jets would get as third period goals from Kukkonen and Jake Seitz put the nail in the coffin for Minnesota. Dysen Skinner made 32 saves to pick up the win in between the pipes while Grant Riley stopped 38 shots in the loss.
