Jr. Blues forward Campbell makes NCAA D1 commitment

February 21, 2020

St. Louis Jr. Blues forward Seamus Campbell, who is also an NAPHL alum, played in the 2020 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Attleboro, MA.

The St. Louis Jr. Blues, proud members of the NA3HL, are extremely pleased to announce that forward Seamus Campbell has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at Quinnipiac University. The Bobcats, located in Hamden, Conn., play in the ECAC and have made the Frozen Four twice in the last seven seasons, finishing national runners-up in 2013 and 2016.

The commitment caps off a banner first year of junior hockey for the 6’0/155 lbs. native of Kirkwood, Missouri, who has also spent time in the NAHL this season with the Springfield Jr. Blues.

Campbell, 18, has appeared in 43 games for the St. Louis Jr. Blues this season, scoring 11 goals and adding 15 assists for 26 points. His talent has caught the eye of NHL Central Scouting, who named him to the mid-term watch list for the 2020 NHL Entry Draft as a late-round pick, as well as that of NAHL clubs.

Campbell was called up earlier this year by the Springfield Jr. Blues, and scored a goal in his first NAHL game. Earlier this week, he played for the NAHL Selects Blue team as a special invitee to the 2020 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Attleboro, Mass., where he played two games and recorded an assist.

Campbell also played in the NAPHL during the 2018-19 season for the CarShield AAA 16U team, where he posted 11 points in 16 games played.

“We couldn’t be prouder for Seamus today for making his Division I commitment,” said Jr. Blues head coach Chris Flaugher. “He’s a smooth, smart skater with a lot of potential and room to grow. QU’s a solid program with a great coach in Rand Pecknold who can really help him grow as a hockey player and a person.”

Campbell becomes the first NA3HL player to commit to a NCAA Division I program since 2016, when New York Aviators (now Long Beach Sharks) goaltender Stephen Mundinger signed to play at Maine.
