Magicians defenseman Oravitz makes NCAA DI commitment
The Minnesota Magicians of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Cole Oravitz has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Mercyhurst University in Atlantic Hockey.
Oravitz, 18, is in his second full season of playing junior hockey in the NAHL. The 6’1/190 lbs. native of Pittsburgh, PA, is having a solid season to date with four points in the first 10 games of the 2020-21 season.
Oravitz was named the Midwest Division Star of the Week for January 18-24, when he put up three points in a weekend sweep of Kenai River.
“Proud to announce my commitment to play Division 1 college hockey at Mercyhurst University. I would like to thank my family, teammates and coaches for all their help and support,” said Oravitz on Twitter.
Oravitz appeared in 31 games for the Magicians during the 2019-20 season and recorded eight points. Prior to playing in the NAHL, he youth hockey for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite organization.
“Cole is a great player and a tremendous leader. He has been a huge part of our defensive unit and an even bigger part of our locker room. We are very proud of him on his commitment to Mercyhurst,” said Magicians head coach Stu Bickel.
