Jamestown forward Vaarwerk makes NCAA DI commitment
The Jamestown Rebels of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Jak Vaarwerk has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for UMass-Lowell in Hockey East.
Vaarwerk, 18, is currently in his first season of playing junior hockey in the NAHL. The 6’0/181 lbs. native of East Amherst, NY, is currently 2nd in team scoring with 19 points (4 goals, 15 assists) in 23 games played.
“I’m very proud and excited to announce my commitment to play division 1 hockey at The University of Massachusetts Lowell. Thank you to my family, friends, and teammates for all the help along the way. #goriverhawks,” stated Vaarwerk in a social media post.
“Jak is one of the best players I have ever had the privilege of coaching. Jak's best days are still to come and I look forward of being a part of it and seeing just how far he can take his skill set. UMass-Lowell is getting a great player, but also a great person and leader,” said Rebels head coach Joe Coombs.
Prior to playing in the NAHL, Vaarwerk played for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres organization at the 18U, 16U, and 15U levels the past few seasons.
Vaarwerk is the third player from the 2021-22 Rebels team who has earned an NCAA Division I commitment.
