Springfield goalie Roberts makes NCAA DI commitment

February 23, 2022

Ethan Roberts, seen here at the 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, played in the NAPHL during the 2018-19 season.

The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that Top Prospects goaltender Ethan Roberts has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of St. Thomas in the CCHA.

Roberts, a 6’1/180 lbs. native of Cary, NC, is in his first season of junior hockey and has had quite a campaign to this point.

The 19-year-old appeared in 28 games for the Jr. Blues and has compiled a 16-8-1 record with a 2.66 GAA, .918 SV%, and 2 shutouts. Roberts was named to Team Midwest at the 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament as well as earning Midwest Division Star of the Week for the week of November 29th-December 5th.

Prior to his time here in Springfield, Roberts played for Nashville Jr. Predators 18U AAA, The Loomis Chaffee School, and the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes in the NAPHL. At St. Thomas he will join Jr. Blues alum and former Captain Aaron Swanson who is in his second season for the Tommies.

“Ethan has been a workhorse for us all season long,” said Head Coach Tyler Rennette. “St. Thomas is getting an excellent goaltender and we are excited to see what he’s able to accomplish at the next level.”

“Super blessed to announce my commitment to play Division 1 college hockey at the University of St. Thomas,” said Ethan on Twitter. “Beyond thankful for God, my coaches, teammates, and my family for all the support along the way!”

Roberts joins Michael Valdez (Colorado College), Fisher Scott (Colorado College), Connor Smith (Union College), Hagen Moe (Bowling Green), and Joey Dosan (Army-West Point) as the sixth player to commit to an NCAA Division 1 program this year.
