Odessa goalie Proctor makes NCAA commitment

April 21, 2022

Odessa goalie Alex Proctor played for the South Division team at the 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament.

The Odessa Jackalopes, a proud member of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), would like to congratulate Top Prospects goaltender Alex Proctor on his commitment to play NCAA Division III hockey for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Proctor is now the sixth Jackalopes player to commit this season.

Proctor, 20, just finished his second season in the NAHL. His first year was in 2019-20 when he played 16 games for the Springfield Jr. Blues (3-7-2, 3.75GAA, .896SV%). The 6’2/175 lbs. native of Dallas, TX, joined the Odessa Jackalopes this season for his final year of junior hockey.

Proctor played in 44 games during the 2021-22 campaign for Odessa and finished with a record of 21-17-1-3 (2.98GAA, .912SV%). His save percentage puts him in a tie for 15th across all NAHL goalies this year. His 21 wins are the second-most in a single season in Jackalopes history. Proctor finished this season with 1,292 saves which are also the second-most in franchise history. He also ended this season in the top-five for minutes played (2,500), saves, and games played. He also saw the third-most shots as a goalie this season at 1,416. Proctor even recorded his first NAHL shutout this year after stopping 29 shots versus Shreveport on October 1, 2021.

He earned South Division Star of the Week for his performance from September 27-October 3, 2021. Finally, Proctor was also selected as one of the two goalies to represent Team South at the 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Pittsburgh, PA.

“I’m excited to further my education and hockey career by attending UWSP in the fall. I would like to thank Coach Deur for the opportunity to play in Odessa, as it has helped me prepare to play at the next level. I’m proud of what the team has accomplished here in Odessa, and I look forward to contributing to the success at Stevens Point in any way I can,” said Proctor.

UWSP is in Stevens Point, WI. The Pointers are a member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The Pointers are currently led by Tyler Krueger (96-23-10), who is in his fifth year as their Head Coach. He has led the pointers to four regular-season titles. Last season, Krueger guided UWSP to their seventh-straight WIAC Championship game. That year the team was led by WIAC Player of the Year, and Odessa Jackalopes alumnus, Zach Zech. There are currently three former Jackalopes on the Pointers roster (Connor Scahill, Tyler German, and Fletcher Anderson).

“Alex was fantastic for us all season. We are excited about his commitment to UWSP which is a fantastic school and has a great coaching staff. We are looking forward to seeing him progress through his college career,” said Odessa Head Coach Scott Deur.
