Oklahoma forward Jones makes NCAA DI commitment

October 19, 2022

The Oklahoma Warriors of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward and alternate captain Hunter Jones has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the American International College Yellow Jackets for the 2023-24 season.

Jones, 20, has recorded 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in seven games played so far this season.

The 5’10/188 lbs. native of Andover, Minnesota, was named the North American Hockey League’s Forward of the Month for September. He put up 11 points in six contests, which included four goals and seven assists and a +9 rating. Jones had three multi-point games, which included a five-point effort during his first game of the NAHL Showcase.

“I know American International College is going to be a great place for me,” said Jones. “It’s a small school and it has a great family culture. I’m excited to see what it has in store for me and playing there will be an awesome opportunity. I like the game they play, and they’re really successful. They know how to win, and I can’t wait to be a part of that.”

“It’s a great feeling but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates,” said Jones. “With team success comes individual success and I’m just happy that I have my team behind me, pushing me to do well. When we’re all on the same page and working hard we’re a tough team to play against. It doesn’t matter who is on what line on any given night, with the players on this team, we can dominate.”

Jones gave insight into what will make the remainder of his time in the North American Hockey League a success for him. “Going to the rink every day and enjoying my last year is important to me. Working hard and seeing my teammates be successful, that’ll just make my year. Hopefully we can cap it off with a championship.”

This is Jones’ third season in the NAHL. In 86 career NAHL regular season games, he has recorded 52 points. He also has two points in 11 career Robertson Cup Playoff games.
