October 20, 2022

The Kenai River Brown Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Garett Drotts has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Augustana University in the CCHA.

Drotts, 18, is currently in his rookie season of playing junior hockey in the NAHL. The 6’0/175 lbs. native of Deer River, MN, was originally drafted by Kenai River in the 2nd round, #57 overall in the 2022 NAHL Draft.

So far during the 2022-23 season, Drotts has impressed during his rookie campaign, recording 12 points (7 goals, 5 assists) in the first 14 games of the season for the 1st place Brown Bears. His 12 points ranks tied for 2nd in team scoring as does his seven goals.

“I am extremely proud and honored to announce my commitment to play Division 1 hockey and further my education at Augustana University. I’d like to thank my Parents, Teammates, Coaches and everyone who has helped me along the way. Go Vikings!,” said Drotts.

Prior to playing in the NAHL, Drotts played high school hockey in Minnesota for Grand Rapids High. As a senior forward last season, Drotts was second on the team in goals with 23 adding 25 assists. He helped Grand Rapids to a 20-7-1 record and section title appearance.

He also played in an NAPHL event with the Minnesota Blue Ox 16U team during the 2019-20 season.
