Saturday Scores: New Mexico stays hot with sweep
Minot forward Colby Joseph scored a goal in each of the two wins this weekend as the Minotauros swept Bismarck.
Amarillo 1 @ New Mexico 3 – In front of a packed house at Outpost Ice Arenas, the Ice Wolves maintained their spot in 2nd place in the South thanks to a 3-1 win on Saturday and weekend sweep of the Wranglers. Ryan Johnson started the scoring the 1st period for New Mexico. Amarillo knotted the game at 1-1 in the 2nd period as Rihards Simanovics scored his 5th goal in his last four games. The Ice Wolves put the game away in the 3rd period with goals from Yusaku Ando and Jeff Hutchinson. William Craig made 24 saves in the win, while Carter Clafton made 32 saves in the loss.
Bismarck 1 @ Minot 2 – Minotauros goalie Lawton Zacher made 25 saves to lead his team to a 2-1 home win on Saturday, which completed a weekend home-and-home sweep of the Bobcats. The Bobcats scored first in the 1st period with their lone goal from Michael Neumeier. Just :15 seconds later, the Minotauros had an answer as Hunter Longhi scored to make it 1-1. The game-winner came late in the 3rd period as Colby Joseph scored his 4th goal of the season. Bismarck goalie Linards Lipskis made 31 saves in the loss.
Johnstown 2 @ Maryland 4 - The Maryland Black Bears continued their winning ways as they doubled up the Johnstown Tomahawks by a score of 4-2. Christian Catalano tied his teammate Dimitry Kebreau for the league lead in goals with his 13th of the season. Brayden Stannard also grabbed a goal and an assist in the win while Hunter Ramos and Sean Kilcullen picked up tallies as well for the Black Bears. William Hakansson got his second win of the weekend as he made 24 saves. Anthony Galante provided all the offense for Johnstown in the loss. Alec Rajalin-Scharp took the loss, making 25 saves.
Shreveport 3 @ Oklahoma 4 (OT) – Down 3-0 in the 3rd period, the Warriors mounted a furious comeback and then won late in overtime to complete a series sweep of the Mudbugs with a 4-3 win. Shreveport had a 3-0 lead midway through the 3rd period with two goals from Niklas Miller and one from Garrett Steele. With less than eight minutes remaining in regulation, the Warriors scored three goals in less than five minutes to tie the game as Hunter Jones, Drew Sutton, and Kaden Nelson all found the back of the net. In overtime, Max Dronen would net the game-winner. Cameron Korpi made 14 saves in the win, while Simon Bucheler made 26 saves in the loss.
Maine 8 @ Danbury 2 - Eight different players from the Nordiques found the back of the net as Maine cruised to an 8-2 victory over Danbury. Patrick Schmiedlin led the offense with a goal and two assists. Laurent Trepanier, Anthony Achille, and Henrik Hallberg each finished the night with a goal and an assist. Blake Rothstein, Oliver Genest, Filip Wiberg and Brendan Gibbons all got on the scoresheet as well for the Nordiques. Thomas Heaney had plenty of offensive support as he made 29 saves to pick up the victory. Miles Harrington and Wyatt Stefan netted goals for Danbury. Adam Johnson finished the night making 35 saves.
Northeast 3 @ New Jersey 2 - Joseph Mcgraw’s goal with 30 seconds remaining in regulation was the different as the Northeast Generals finished off the sweep of the New Jersey Titans with a 3-2 win on Saturday night. New Jersey got on the board first as Ben Muthersbaugh scored his seventh of the year. Jake LaRusso would tie things up just minutes later with his eighth of the campaign. The Generals took the lead in the second with Joe Schubert’s power play goal but the Titans would counter with a goal on the man advantage late in the middle frame off the stick of Michael Young. The game remained scoreless until Schubert found Mcgraw in the dying seconds. Cullen DeYoung earned the win in the blue paint by making 29 saves. Marino Ramirez suffered the loss in net as he made 31 stops.
Springfield 2 @ North Iowa 6 - Logan Dombrowsky made sure to bring the North Iowa Bulls losing streak to a halt as the forward had a hat trick and an assist to lead the Bulls to a 6-2 win over the Springfield Jr. Blues. Justin Mexico had himself a two point night while Max Scott and Landon MacDonald both lit the lamp for North Iowa. Mitch Day secured the win in goal as he made 22 saves. Scott Miner and Brayden Cook netted goals for Springfield. Carson Dorfman and Aksel Reid teamed up to make 27 saves in the loss for the Jr. Blues.
Minnesota 9 @ St. Cloud 0 - It was all Minnesota in their battle with St. Cloud as the Wilderness took home a 9-0 victory. Gunnar Thoreson led all skaters with two goals and two assists. Michael Quinn also found the back of the net twice, he added an assist as well. Oliver Stumpel picked up a goal and two helpers while Eddie Shepler and Hunter Bulger each had a goal and an assist. Cole Gordon and Luke Jech also found the back of the net for the Wilderness. Konrad Kausch got the shutout in goal as he stopped all 16 shots he faced. Tomas Bolo was saddled with the loss, he made 20 saves.
Austin 1 @ Aberdeen 2 (OT) - The Aberdeen Wings salvaged a series split with a 2-1 overtime win over the Austin Bruins. James Goffredo got the scoring started for Austin midway through this one as he netted his fifth of the season with the assists going to Dylan Cook and Austin Salani. Aberdeen finally got on the board at the 6:25 mark of the third as Landry Schmuck setup Luke Backel for his first goal of the season. That would force overtime and in the extra session, Alexander Gullichsen found Devon Carlstrom streaking to the front of the net and Carlstrom was able to put it home for his first of the year. Cole Moore got the win in goal as he made 27 saves. Trent Wiemken was stuck with the tough loss, he made 26 saves for Austin.
Odessa 2 @ Lone Star 1 (SO) – Gergely Orosz made 42 saves and stopped all three Brahmas shooters in the shootout to give the Jackalopes a 2-1 shootout win in Lone Star, which snapped the Brahmas 11-game winning streak. Both regulation goals came in the 2nd period as Ryan Prewitt scored for the Brahmas, with Brendan Finn answering for Odessa. Nathanial Boak ended up with the lone goal in the shootout to secure the win for the Jackalopes. Lone Star goalie Arthur Smith made 20 saves in the loss.
Wisconsin 3 @ Anchorage 5 – The Wolverines got two goals from Aiden Westin in a 5-3 win over the Windigo in the second game of a three-game series. Danny Reis opened the scoring for the Wolverines in the 1st period. In the 2nd period, the teams combined for five goals as Axel Begley and Benjamin Anderson scored for Wisconsin, while Jackson Reineke, Wilson Dahlheimer, and Westin answered for Anchorage. In the 3rd period, Westin added his second, while Will Schumacher scored for the Windigo. Ben Dardis made 29 saves in the win, while Maxwell Beckford made 27 saves in the loss.
Janesville 2 @ Fairbanks 3 – Ice Dogs goalie Kayden Hargraves made 46 saves as the Ice Dogs salvaged a win in their three-game series against the Jets thanks to a 3-2 win on Saturday. Cole Burke opened the scoring in the 1st period for the Ice Dogs. The Jets tied the game at 1-1 in the 2nd period with a goal from Chris Pelosi. Fairbanks regained the lead later in the 2nd period with a goal from Jake Cameron. In the 3rd period, Gustav Portillo netted his third goal of the weekend for the Jets to make it 2-2, but a power play goal from Billy Renfrew later in the 3rd period proved to be the difference in the Fairbanks win. Dylan Johnson took the loss in goal for the Jets, making 30 saves.
Chippewa 2 @ Kenai River 3 – Garrett Drotts scored twice to lead the Brown Bears to a 3-2 win over the Steel, which salvaged a win of the three-game series. Drotts scored in the 1st and 2nd periods to put the Brown Bears ahead 2-0. Chippewa made a comeback attempt in the 3rd period with goals from Zach Sondreal and Matthew Brille, but a 3rd period goal from Ashton Christman for the Brown Bears secured the 3-2 win. Bryant Marks made 35 saves in the win, while Adam Gajan made 33 saves in the loss.
