Saturday Scores: Midwest up for grabs after wild weekend
Ryan Burke had a four-point weekend as Shreveport swept Corpus Christi.
Fairbanks 3 @ Janesville 2 (OT) - Cole Burke’s second goal of the game gave the Fairbanks Ice Dogs the weekend sweep over the Janesville Jets 3-2 in overtime. Julian Recine had the other tally for Fairbanks, that was his eighth of the year, coming on the power play. Conner Brown and Ethan Begg provided the offense for the Jets. Kayden Hargraves stopped 27 shots to get his team in the win column. Selby Warren suffered the loss in net, making 33 saves.
Corpus Christi 2 @ Shreveport 5 – The Mudbugs got three-point nights from Ryan Burke and Hayden Nichol as they completed a weekend home sweep of the IceRays thanks to a 5-2 win on Saturday. The game was knotted at 1-1 after one period with Nick Marino scoring for Shreveport and Eli Reimer answering for the IceRays. The Mudbugs then seized control with three straight goals from Kason Muscutt, Garrett Steele, and Hayden Nichol. Late in the contest, the IceRays made it 4-2 with a goal from Dylan Contreras, but an empty-net goal from Logan Heroux secured the win. Simon Bucheler made 17 saves in the win, while Thomas Kiesewetter made 41 saves in the loss.
Oklahoma 3 @ Odessa 2 – Thanks to 25 saves from Daniel Duris, the Oklahoma Warriors picked up a weekend road sweep of Odessa thanks to a 3-2 win on Saturday. Each team scored twice in the 2nd period as Tanyon Bajzer and William Marshall lit the lamp for Odessa, while Max Dronen and Rylan Brady scored for Oklahoma. In the 3rd period, the Warriors game-winning goal came in the final four minutes thanks to a power play strike from Malte Hasselgren. Jackalopes goalie Gergely Orosz made 31 saves in the loss.
Northeast 2 @ Danbury 1 - For the second consecutive night, Paul Minnehan scored the game winning goal as the Northeast Generals topped the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks 2-1. Minnehan would end up with two points on the night as he also assisted on the game tying goal scored by Joseph Schubert. David Andreychuk also had two helpers for Northeast. Liam Varmecky scored the only goal for Danbury. Cullen DeYoung made 18 saves to secure the win in goal while Matt O’Donnell took the loss with 31 saves.
New Jersey 4 @ Johnstown 3 - Four second period goals were all the New Jersey Titans needed to complete the sweep of the Johnstown Tomahawks. After David Matousek got Johnstown on the board first, the Titans scored four times in a span of 10 minutes. Eric Charpentier netted a pair of goals, Ethan Wongus got his first of the year and Dominik Bartecko also found the back of the net. Ryan Vellucci and Zachary Aben made it close but it was too little too late for Johnstown. Zakari Brice picked up the win in net as he made 24 stops. Alec Rajalin-Scharp finished the evening with 19 saves.
Maryland 3 @ Maine 4 (OT) - Evan Orloff completed the Nordiques’ comeback with the game winning goal as Maine topped Maryland 4-3. The Black Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Brad McNeil and Branden Piku scored in the opening frame while Kaleb Tiessen extended the lead in the second. Oliver Genest started the comeback with his sixth of the season and Sterling Wolters brought the Nordiques within one just about 90 seconds later. Genest netted his second goal of the night in the final period of regulation to tie the game at three. Anthony Achille would then feed Orloff in the dying seconds of overtime to secure the extra point for Maine. Kael Depape made 27 saves to earn the win in goal while William Hakansson suffered the loss despite making 34 stops.
Anchorage 6 @ Wisconsin 4 - Logan Lyke had a goal and two assists while Kyle Bauer chipped in two goals of his own in Anchorage’s 6-4 win over the Wisconsin Windigo. Cameron Morris had a goal and an assist while Gage Brown and Aiden Westin both lit the lamp. Zachary Burfoot had a goal and an assist for Wisconsin while Everett Pietila, Benjamin Anderson and Luke Levandowski all got on the scoresheet as well. Shane Soderwall was the winner in goal as he made 30 saves. Maxwell Beckford was saddled with the loss as he made 37 saves for the Windigo.
Minnesota 2 @ Springfield 5 - The Springfield Jr. Blues picked up the win on Saturday night over the Minnesota Wilderness, securing a 5-2 victory. Nikita Nikora, Brayden Cook, Tyler Borgula and Isaac Keller each had a goal and an assist. Noah Marino notched the other tally for the Jr. Blues. Oliver Stumpel and Kevin Marx Noren each grabbed a goal and a helper for Minnesota in the loss. Carson Dorfman got the win in between the pipes as he made 20 saves. Konrad Kausch was given the loss as he made 12 saves.
North Iowa 3 @ St. Cloud 4 - Hunter Hanson’s goal with just 1:48 remaining in regulation was the difference as the St. Cloud Norsemen got by the North Iowa Bulls by a score of 4-3. North Iowa jumped out to a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes of play as Blake Johnson, Eli Miller and Byron Hartley all scored. Broten Sabo had the lone goal of the period for the Norsemen. Tyler Dysart scored twice in the second period to tie the game at three goals apiece and it would remain that way until Hanson’s game winner. Tomas Bolo stopped all 12 shots he faced in relief to earn the win in goal. Mitch Day suffered the loss on the other end as he stopped 29 shots.
Aberdeen 4 @ Austin 2 – Alexander Gullichsen scored two goals to lead the Wings to a 4-2 win and weekend road split with the Austin Bruins. The game was tied 1-1 after the first 20 minutes as James Goffredo scored for the Bruins with Landon Parker answering for the Wings. In the 2nd period, a goal from Aberdeen’s Owen Dubois put the road side ahead 2-1. Gullichsen would then add both of his goals in the 3rd period to secure the win. Austin Salani had the other goal in the Bruins loss. Cole Moore made 16 saves in the win, while Ethan Robertson made 21 saves in the loss.
El Paso 1 @ Amarillo 4 – Wranglers goalie Luca Ganz made 21 saves to lead his team to a 4-1 win over the visiting Rhinos. Amarillo scored three goals in a five-minute span in the 1st period as Nikolas Campbell, Chase Davis, and Connor McNaughton all scored. El Paso made it 3-1 before the end of the period with their lone goal from Tristan Kimmen. In the 2nd period, a goal from Preston Brighton secured the 4-1 win for the Wranglers. El Paso goalie Nolan Suggs made 33 saves in the loss.
Minot 3 @ Bismarck 6 – Alexander Palchik scored two goals to lead the Bobcats to a 6-3 win over the Minotauros, handing Minot their 5th straight loss. The Bobcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead midway through the 3rd period, which included two goals from Palchik and others from Brandon Reller, Drew Holt, and Evan Hunter. Minot netted three straight goals in the 3rd period from John Emmons, Justin Dauphinais, and Chase LaPinta, but a late goal from Adam Pietila secured the 6-3 win. Hunter Garvey made 27 saves in the win, while Lawton Zacher made 28 saves in the loss.
New Mexico 3 @ Lone Star 2 (SO) – The Ice Wolves earned a weekend split thanks to a 3-2 shootout win in Lone Star on Saturday. The Brahmas jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the 1st period with goals from Ray Murakami and Dhillon Wilde, while Ryan Johnson scored for New Mexico. In the 2nd period, the Ice Wolves tied the game at 2-2 with a goal from Sully Scholle. In the shootout, goals from Jack Dalton and Graham Harris secured the extra point for New Mexico. William Craig made 21 saves in the win, while Arthur Smith made 16 saves in the loss.
