Maryland forward McNeil makes NCAA DI commitment

February 13, 2023

The Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that Top Prospects forward Brad McNeil has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in the ECAC.

McNeil, 20, is in his third and final season playing junior hockey in the NAHL. The 6’1/195 lbs. native of Royal Oak, MI, and team captain is having his best career season thus far in 2022-23 with 37 points (14 goals, 23 assists) in 42 games played to date, which ranks him 2nd in team scoring.

“I’m extremely proud and honored to announce my commitment to play division 1 college hockey and further my education at RPI! I can’t express how thankful I am for the support of my friends, teammates, coaches, and especially my family!” stated McNeil on social media.

Just a week ago, McNeil played in the 2023 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the East Division team, where RPI was also in attendance. He recorded a goal and an assist in two games played at the event.

“Talk about a success story. An undrafted free agent, coming to our main camp three years ago, and finding a way, not only to make the team, but become one of the most integral players, we have had in Maryland. Brad has humble; team-first principles; and has never asked for anything. He has trusted our process and been a huge part of building the Maryland Black Bear culture. We are excited for Brad and his family and can’t wait to see him achieve his dream of playing Division I hockey at such an esteemed university as RPI,” said Black Bears head coach Clint Mylymok.

During the 2021-22 season, McNeil recorded 29 points in 60 games played and two goals in eight playoff games. He was also selected to and played in the 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the East Division where he had a goal and an assist in the event.

During his rookie season in 2020-21, he recorded 11 points in 43 games played. Overall in his three-year career he has played in 145 regular season games and recorded 78 points.
