Weekend Wrap-Up: Brown Bears complete three-game sweep
Kenai River 3 @ Fresno 2 – The Kenai River Brown Bears completed a three-game weekend road sweep of the Fresno Monsters with a 3-2 win in the lone NAHL game on Sunday. With the win, the Brown Bears now lead the Monsters by 14 points for 3rd place in the West Division.
Things started well for the Monsters as they scored the lone goal of the 1st period as with 2:44 remaining Justin Plate scored his second goal in as many games with assists to Ian Janco and Chase Sisk.
However, it would be all Kenai River from that point on as they opened up the 2nd period with two quick goals to take a 2-1 lead. The first came from Chris Nuth at the 3:44 mark with assists for former Monster Mikhail Bushinski and Zac Lazzaro. Alex Jackstadt gave the Bears the lead for good with a goal three minutes later with assists to Albin Karlsson and Alec Butcher.
Jackstadt scored his second goal of the game just :48 seconds into the 3rd period with Butcher and Karlsson assisting again. Dan Sherer added a late short-handed goal for the Monsters to cut the lead to 3-2, but Fresno could not equalize in the final seconds.
Marcus Zelzer, who picked up all three wins in the series, made 26 saves in the win on Sunday, while Macauley Haight took the loss, making 21 saves.
