North, 18U Selects and Central win on Day 1 of Top Prospects

It was an exciting Day 1 at the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, which saw plenty of scoring as all three games were decided by three goals. The two day event wraps-up on Tuesday.

North 3 vs. South 0 – North goalies Alex Blankenburg and Stefanos Lekkas stole the show as the duo faced a combined 48 shots and shut the door on every one of them as the North blanked the South, 3-0. The North would take the lead late in the 1st period on a goal from Michael Sabatini. Davis DeKorte added an early 3rd period goal to make it 2-0 and Brandon Reinholz made it 3-0 with an empty-net goal. Robin Hoglund picked up two assists and Reinholz and Sabatini also had multi-point nights. Blankenburg ended up with 18 saves, while Lekkas had 30. PJ Bridges made 14 saves in the South loss and David Zevnik made 8 saves in the loss. Boxscore
NAHL 18U Selects 3 vs. HPHL All-Stars 0 – It was NHL Prospects Chase Perry and Logan Halladay posting the shutout as the NAHL 18U Selects blanked the HPHL All-Stars, 3-0. Halladay made 10 saves, while Perry made 12. After a scoreless 1st period Parker Tuomie scored early in the 2nd period to make it 1-0. Sam Kauppila followed up with the 2nd 18U Selects goal just about 10 minutes later on a goal from Sam Kauppila. Carson Vance added a 3rd period goal to secure the win for the NAHL side. Cody Gibson made 16 saves in the loss for the HPHL side and Alexander Freese made 12 saves. Boxscore
Central 4 vs. Midwest 1 – Three, 3rd period goals gave the Central team a 4-1 win over the Midwest on the opening day. The Midwest took a 1-0 lead in the 1st period on a goal from Lonnie Clary. Central would tie the game in the 2nd period on a goal from Jay Dickman. Then came the three-goal barrage in the 3rd period on two goals from Lukas Laub and another from Huba Sekesi. Nick Lehr and Aaron Nelson split time in the win. Atte Tolvanen made 15 saves and Blake Cates made 5 saves in the loss. Boxscore
