The Minnesota Wilderness, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that defenseman Alex Spencer has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Spencer, 20, just completed his final season of junior hockey in 2017-18 in the NAHL, which was split between the Wilderness and the Shreveport Mudbugs. The Wilderness acquired the 6’4/215 native of Duluth, Minnesota towards the NAHL trading deadline in February.
In 54 regular season games during the 2017-18 season, Spencer totaled 10 points from the blueline.
Spencer broke into the NAHL during the 2016-17 season with the Mudbugs and had two points in 42 games during his rookie season. Overall in 96 career NAHL games, Spencer recorded 12 points.
“Alex is a great young man and did an outstanding job for us in the second half of the season after we acquired him. He will be a real asset to Superior and we wish him well in his college career,” said Wilderness GM and Head Coach Dave Boitz.
Prior to playing in the NAHL for the Wilderness, Spencer played three seasons of varsity hockey in Minnesota for Duluth East High School.
