The Odessa Jackalopes, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that defenseman Rune Kirby has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Tufts University.
Kirby, 21, spent the past two seasons playing in the NAHL, the majority of which was spent with the Jackalopes. During the 2017-18 season, the 5’9/175 lbs. native of Ludington, Michigan, recorded two points in 42 games played. He also served as one of the team captains.
Kirby made his NAHL debut with the New Jersey Titans at the start of the 2016-17 season and later played for the Aston Rebels before being traded to Odessa in November of 2016. Overall, he has appeared in 73 career NAHL games and recorded six points.
“Kirby has been through a lot the past two seasons and battled with some tough injuries, but he was our captain and a really important part of our team over the last two years,” said Jackalopes head coach Greg Gatto.
Prior to playing in the NAHL, Kirby spent two seasons playing at Culver Military Academy.
