NAHL announces Bauer Hockey Stars of the Week

The North American Hockey League (NAHL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey for the week ending March 26, 2023.  The Divisional Stars of the Week is a weekly feature during the 2022-23 season that honors the top performing players in each of the four NAHL divisions. Only players that are nominated by their respective teams are considered for the Divisional Players of the Week award.

 

Central Division Star of the Week: Cole Moore, Goaltender, Aberdeen Wings

Aberdeen Wings goalie Cole Moore, 19, led his team to pick up three of a possible four points in a weekend road series in Bismarck as the Wings maintained their spot in the 4th and final playoff position in the two games. The  6’5/200 lbs. native of Toronto, ON, stopped 71 of 74 shots in the two wins. On Friday, Moore made 46 sabes in a 2-1 shootout loss. On Saturday, he stopped 25 of 26 shots in a 4-1 win. For the season, the Bowling Green recruit has a 19-15-3 record in 41 games played with a 2.63 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.“Cole was impressive this weekend giving us the chance to win both games. He is a hardworking player that is a leader on this team,” said Wings head coach Scott Langer.

East Division Star of the Week: Zakari Brice, Goaltender, New Jersey Titans

New Jersey Titans goalie Zakari Brice, 20, backstopped his team to a weekend road sweep of the Maine Nordiques as the Titans widened their lead for 2nd place in the East Division. The 5’11/174 lbs. native of Fairbanks, AK, stopped 58 of 62 shots in the two wins. On Friday, Brice mad 23 saves in a 5-3 win. On Saturday, he made 35 saves in a 2-1 win. For the season, the Arizona State recruit has a 21-8-3 record in 33 games played with a 2.32 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. “Zak continued his strong play for us this past weekend.  Since returning from an early season Illness, he has really found himself and solidified himself as one of the best goaltenders in the league.  He was huge for us in each game providing big games at critical moments.  He is the backbone of our club, and we look forward to him continuing his strong play as we pursue a birth in the Robertson Cup Playoffs,” said Titans head coach Craig Doremus.

Midwest Division Star of the Week: Sam Rice, Forward, Chippewa Steel

Chippewa Steel forward Sam Rice, 19, rad a huge weekend as the Steel took three of four points in a series against the Wisconsin Windigo. The 5’9/161 lbs. native of Prior Lake, MN, recorded seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) and was a +4 in the two contests. On Friday, Rice had a goal and three assists in a 6-5 shootout loss. On Saturday, he responded against with a hat-trick in a 5-2 win. For the season, Rice currectly leads the Steel in scoring with 54 points in 52 games played. “Sam is having a remarkable season and is somehow still taking his game to another level. He is a 200-foot player, who takes as much pride in keeping pucks out of our net, as he does in helping us score goals.  His level of focus and commitment to getting better is unmatched.  Sam is going to make a NCAA Division I staff very happy when he’s on campus, not only as a player, but as a student athlete and a culture driver,” said Steel head coach Casey Mignone.

South Division Star of the Week: Chase Davis, Forward, Amarillo Wranglers

Amarillo Wranglers forward Chase Davis, 20, had a big weekend to help the Wranglers keep their playoff hopes alive as the swept the Corpus Christi IceRays at home. The 6’4/210 lbs. native of Alpharetta, GA, had six points and was +4 in the two wins. On Friday, Davis had the game-winning goal and an assist in a 7-1 win. On Saturday, he was even better with two goals and two assists in a 7-3 win. For the season, the Bentley University recruit currently leads the Wranglers in scoring with 51 points in 54 games to date. “Bentley University is getting a player next year that has the ability and readiness to make an immediate impact as a Freshman,” said Amarillo head coach Harry Mahood.
