Blizzard, Girard shutout Minot on Tuesday, 3-0

January 29, 2014
Brookings Blizzard 3 @ Minot Minotauros 0 – Brookings goaltender Connor Girard stopped all 32 shots that came his way for his second shutout of the season as Brookings picked up a big 3-0 road win in Minot on Tuesday. The win pulled the Blizzard to within eight points of the Minotauros for the 4th and final playoff spot in the Central Division.

It didn’t take long for the Blizzard to open the scoring as just over a minute into the game Russ Jordan tipped home a shot from the point from Brandon Parker to put the Blizzard ahead, 1-0.

After a scoreless 2nd period, the Blizzard increased the lead to 2-0 midway through the 3rd period as Jared Goudreau buried a rebound chance after Minot goalie Merrick Madsen had made the initial save. Jordan would pick up an assist on the goal as would Will Graber. Late in the game, the Blizzard added their third and final goal as Evan Hesse spring loose on a breakaway and slipped home a backhand shot as he was falling to ice. Parker picked up his second assist of the night on the goal and Jeff Flicker also assisted.

Madsen made 25 saves in the loss. Jacob Howie led all Minotauros players with seven shots on goal. Neither team was able to convert on the power play as Minot went 0 for 4 and Brookings went 0 for 2.
