Johnstown goalie Bednard makes NCAA DI commitment
October 10, 2014

The Johnstown Tomahawks, proud members of the NAHL, are pleased to announce that goaltender Ryan Bednard has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Bowling Green State University.
“We are very excited and proud of Ryan on making his commitment to Bowling Green. It is a great place for hockey players to become successful while also getting a great education,” said Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia.
Bednard has appeared in four games for the Tomahawks, earning his first NAHL win against Odessa at the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minn. Bednard also stopped 19 of 21 shots, earning the win for Team Grier in the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game on Sept. 25. The All-American Prospects game featured the top 40 NHL Draft eligible players born in the United States.
“Ryan is an extremely hard working kid that constantly works to improve his game and be better than the day before. I think that he will continue to get better each day and the best is yet to come for him. We couldn't be happier for him and his family with this decision,” said Letizia.
Bednard joins his older brother and former Tomahawks forward Shane Bednard in committing to play for the Falcons. “I’m really excited to attend such a great school. It’s a great opportunity, plus I will get the chance to play with my brother for the first time,” said Bednard.
Bednard’s time as a member of the Tomahawks helped him to make this commitment. “Being in Johnstown, the coaches have given me every opportunity to play,” said Bednard.
Bowling Green is a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. The Falcons are coached by fifth-year head coach Chris Bergeron.
