May 24, 2018
The Amarillo Bulls, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), have announced that forward Stephen Rex has committed to play NCAA Division III for Amherst College in the NESCAC and will enroll in school this fall.

“I’m happy to get that commitment to that school because I have been looking at it for a couple of years,” Rex said. “It’s a high academic institution and the hockey is very good as well. I’m really looking forward to my time there.”

Rex’s work ethic and compete level on the ice made him an instant hit with Amarillo Bulls teammates and fans this past season. Now the 5'8/160 lbs. native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native will be able to take that to the next level and embark on a new chapter in his career and life.

Rex was selected by the Bulls last season in the NAHL Draft. In 58 games with the Bulls, he potted five goals and added eight assists for 13 points. Rex was a critical part of the Bulls special teams playing a vital role on the penalty kill where he was able to collect two shorthanded goals.

“Stephen was such a big part of our culture change this season,” said Bulls Head Coach Rocky Russo. “His work ethic and compete level set the standard for our team all year. He earned the Coaches Award this season and will make an immediate impact at Amherst this coming season.
