The Kenai River Brown Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward David Kaplan has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Kaplan, 20, just completed his second season playing in the NAHL for the Brown Bears. The 5’9/160 lbs. native of Vernon Hills, Illinois, played in 58 regular season games during the 2017-18 season and recorded 15 points (8 goals, 7 assists).
Kaplan was also selected to and played in the 2018 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the Midwest Division team, where he recorded one goal at the event.
Brown Bears Head Coach Josh Petrich said the following of Kaplan, “David was instrumental in the rebuild and turn around of the Brown Bears this season. He showed up to the rink every day, gave it his all and helped lead our young group. The Brown Bears are better on the ice, in the locker room and especially in the community for having David Kaplan as a part of this program. We wish him all the success the next four year at UW-Superior.”
Overall in his two-year NAHL career, Kaplan has recorded 30 points in 116 career games. David was also rewarded for his off the ice efforts being named the 2018 Midwest Division Community Service Award winner.
David had this to say about his commitment to UW-Superior, “I would like to thank my family, coaches, and billet families for helping me through the whole recruiting process. I greatly enjoyed my two years in Kenai and am very happy to be joining the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellow Jackets and look forward to the next four years!”
Prior to playing in the NAHL, he played his youth hockey for the Milwaukee Junior Admirals in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League.
