August 3, 2018

The Shreveport Mudbugs of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Roberts Baranovskis has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Aurora University in the NCHA.
Baranovskis, 20, spent the 2017-18 season in the NAHL with the Robertson Cup Champion Mudbugs, which was his first season in North America. The 5’11/181 lbs. native of Jelgava, Latvia, recorded 26 points (9 goals, 17 assists) in 56 games played during the regular season. He also had a great playoff run contributing seven points as he played in all 13 playoff games.
Baranovskis was also selected to and played in the 2018 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the South Division team where he had one point in two games played.
"Roberts is a very effective two-way player whose defensive game grew tremendously throughout his 2017-18 season with the Mudbugs. He is gifted offensively which makes him a threat on the power play and he has a great work ethic which should translate well into the collegiate game,” said Shreveport head coach Jason Campbell. “Aurora has acquired a great player and young man in Roberts who was a huge part of the Mudbugs Championship run this past season. We are happy to see Roberts move on as a student-athlete and we wish him and his new team the best of luck in the years to come."
Prior to playing in the NAHL for Shreveport, Baranovskis spent time playing junior hockey in Latvia for HK Riga. He also played in the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championships for his home country.
