Lone Star defenseman Sirota departs for NCAA

The Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) would like to announce that veteran defenseman Jakub Sirota will be leaving the organization in order to join the NCAA Division I University of Maine Black Bears NCAA program. Sirota will begin attending Maine in the spring semester and will finish the 2018-19 hockey season with the Black Bears.

 

Sirota, 19, committed to Maine this past spring (May 25th) shortly after the conclusion of the 2017-18 season. He was slated to begin attending school next fall, but circumstances necessitated Maine calling up Sirota sooner than originally planned.

 

 

Sirota played 57 regular season games with the Brahmas and was an offensive weapon from the blue line for the team, putting up four goals and 26 assists in that time. He added another goal and three assists in the Brahmas’ eight-game playoff run last spring.

 

Prior to his time with the Brahmas, Sirota played over 50 games for the Czech Republic and was listed on the NHL’s Central Scouting List.

 

Sirota has been a key member of the defensive corps and the Brahmas will plainly miss Sirota’s offensive output and strong presence on the blue line, but the coaching staff is confident that the team will be able to adjust.

 

The Lone Star organization prides itself on advancing players to the next level, and Sirota’s move to Maine is an excellent example. The Brahmas have no doubt that he will continue to play at a high level with Maine and wish him nothing but the best as his hockey career progresses.
