The Aberdeen Wings, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Jonathan Bendorf has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Mercyhurst University in Atlantic Hockey.
Bendorft, 19, is a 6’0/190 lbs. left-handed forward from Yardville, New Jersey. He is currently in his second season with the Wings after coming over from the Philadelphia Rebels early last season.
Bendorf current leads the Wings in scoring this season with 30 points (10 goals, 20 assists) in 23 games played for the 1st place Wings. He also serves as one of the teams assistant captains.
Last season, Bendorf caught the eyes of scouts as he played in 56 regular season games between the Wings and Rebels and had 50 points. He was also selected to and played in the 2018 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the Selects Red team, where he made a splash at the event with two goals in two games.
He began his NAHL career with the Wichita Falls Wildcats during the 2016-17 season. Overall in 112 career NAHL games, Bendorf has recorded 106 points.
Bendorf also thrives and makes a difference off the ice as last season he was awarded with the 2017-18 NAHL Community Service Award.
"Jon is a high character athlete that possesses the ability to change the complexion of a game. His leadership value has been outstanding and these qualities will translate very well at the next level," said Wings Head Coach Scott Langer. "He is also committed to being at as many community events possible and his compassion and heart in the community is a huge reason why he is a fan favorite in Aberdeen. Jonathan truly makes a difference each time he steps into the community, and the Wings are proud to have him wearing their logo and representing the team."
