The Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Austin Koss has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Augsburg University in Minneapolis.
The 5’11/198 lbs. native of Huntington Beach, California, will begin his student-athlete career with the Auggies of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) in the 2019-20 season.
“Austin was a great addition for us this season,” said IceRays Head Coach/GM Ryan Cruthers. “He works extremely hard each day and gave us instant leadership in our locker room. We are very happy for him and wish him the best of luck.”
Koss is the 13th player from the IceRays’ roster to commit to an NCAA school.
Koss, 21, was added to the IceRays’ roster Feb. 7 and appeared in every game following the team’s return from Alaska, registering four points (2+2) in 15 regular season games, as well as one goal in five playoff games. In addition to his role on the team’s penalty kill, Koss’ +4 postseason rating tied for best on the team.
Over the course of three seasons, Koss played in 124 NAHL regular season games between the IceRays, Janesville Jets and Minot Minotauros, notching 30 points (18+12). In addition to his five playoff games with the IceRays last month, he appeared in 13 total games for the Minotauros in the previous two postseasons, including a trip to the 2018 Robertson Cup National Championship.
